PCs are indeed too trusting. Just last week I posted about making them more paranoid in general, specifically because if an NPC were to tell them to walk right into a trap they would. Wouldn't be a moments hesitation either. Think about the details the average group shares with their innkeeper, or with anyone really.  It's ludicrous.
