Today's thoughts on economy:  Two types of transactions cause Americans' emotional attachment to objects and between people to change.
1) Someone you know and care about gives you something of minimal commercial value - you attach greater worth to the object because of the thought and care that someone put into presenting you with that object.
2) You pay someone you don't know some agreed upon amount of currency to create something of known commercial value for you, then minimize your relationship to its creator because money was exchanged and eventually either dispose of the object altogether or accept money for its exchange, probably at a discount to the next owner.

Only artistic endeavors consistently transcend these patterns.

Has anyone discovered whether there is support for running imp devices on a wifi intranet?  I know this kinda defeats the company's mission, "connect everything to the interwebs" but I'd like to be able to still use my imp-ed devices in an environment where I can assemble a wifi network but don't have a bridge/gateway for connectivity to the internet/outside world.  Think submarine...  I'm just getting to the research, so don't flame if this has already shown up in last month's NYTimes ;)~  Creative advice and thoughts welcome!

Also, yep!
The geometry of music revealed!  The red lines connect notes that are a major third apart.  The green lines connect notes that are a minor third apart. The blue lines connect notes that are a perfect fifth apart.

Each triangle is a chord with three notes, called a triad.  These are the most basic chords in Western music.   There are two kinds:

A major triad sounds happy.  The major triads are the triangles whose edges go red-green-blue as you go around clockwise.

A minor triad sounds sad.  The minor triads are the triangles whose edges go green-red-blue as you go around clockwise.

This pattern is called a tone net, and this one was created by David W. Bulger.  There's a lot more to say about it, and you can read more in this Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-Riemannian_theory

and this great post by Richard Green:

The symmetry group of this tone net is important in music theory, and if you read these you'll know why!
