Our new Density Map of Automatic Identification System (AIS) data is an interactive online map to watch intensity of global vessel traffic or check marine activity in any area of your interest.

By zoom-in you can get more details in any ocean, harbour, along any river and our map will be rendered in seconds. You can filter by month or even a year to get a bigger picture. Also is it possible to filter by type of vessel or group of them to get more specific reports about fishing activity, for example.

Our Big Data platform processes enormous number of data online to make such interactivity possible. Instead of traditional static repots you get much more flexible tool for marine traffic analysis.

Data are provided by SpaceQuest, Ltd., an entrepreneurial commercial space company.

More information http://ais.owm.io
Current vessel location and route tracking on the map, full list of AIS parameters for each vessel, and reports for effective management of small and middle-size fleet. Sign-up and choose an appropriate account in the price-list; Register your vessels by MMSI to get detailed AIS information and ...

Monitoring of vessel traffic in the new service of our company, OWM AIS http://ais.owm.io

Look for any vessel using our analytical products, interactive maps, AIS and tools for developers based on satellite AIS data that provide global coverage and tracking not only along coastlines but also in open ocean.

Sunburn is traditionally considered an indicator of the attractiveness and a symbol of good health. Small amounts of UV are beneficial for people and essential in the production of vitamin D and serotonin, which is responsible for mood and overall vitality.
Prolonged human exposure to solar UV radiation may result in acute and chronic health effects on the skin, eye and immune system. Over the longer term, UV radiation induces degenerative changes in cells of the skin, fibrous tissue and blood vessels leading to premature skin aging, photodermatoses and actinic keratoses. In the most serious cases, skin cancer and cataracts can occur.
Independently assess the risk of sunlight is very difficult, often believed that simply go into the shadows and do not stay in the sun during the hours of maximum solar activity. But the level of UV radiation is influenced by various environmental factors, which also must be considered. Do you know that:
- Sun height—the higher the sun in the sky, the higher the UV radiation level. Thus UV radiation varies with time of day and time of year, with maximum levels occurring when the sun is at its maximum elevation, at around midday (solar noon) during the summer months.
- Latitude—the closer the equator, the higher the UV radiation levels.
- Cloud cover— UV radiation levels are highest under cloudless skies. Even with cloud cover, UV radiation levels can be high due to the scattering of UV radiation by water molecules and fine particles in the atmosphere.
- Altitude—at higher altitudes, a thinner atmosphere filters less UV radiation. With every 1000 metres increase in altitude, UV levels increase by 10% to 12%.
- Ozone—ozone absorbs some of the UV radiation that would otherwise reach the Earth’s surface. Ozone levels vary over the year and even across the day.
- Ground reflection—UV radiation is reflected or scattered to varying extents by different surfaces, e.g. snow can reflect as much as 80% of UV radiation, dry beach sand about 15%, and sea foam about 25%.
All of these factors takes into account the UV Index. As part of an international effort, the UV index was developed by WHO, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the World Meteorological Organization.

Weather for your luggage!

OpenWeatherMap weather app for the smartphone from http://bluesmart.com/
, which allows you to track the journey of your baggage worldwide.
Bags embedded with digital technology are capable of amazing things. They can be controlled remotely from your smartphone and come with technology to track your bag, outlets to charge your devices, a built-in scale, and secure remote digital lock. Some say technology has taken one small step for luggage, one giant leap for travelers.
“We have made a decision to integrate OpenWeatherMap for two main reasons. First was the most efficient cost we could get in the market. On the other side, the flexibility to adapt the service/product to our app made it perfect to get the results our developers and designers were looking for to achieve the best user experience.”

If you are interested in monitoring of marine traffic in the specific zone or need to investigate what happened in the zone on the specific date then our new polygon API to satellite Automatic Identification System (AIS) might be helpful for you. The API returns current or historical information about vessels for any polygon on the global map. The polygon may have very complicated shape accurately replicating the outline of any port or harbour and extracting unnecessary zones inside. Example of API call for rectangle zone http://api.ais.owm.io/1.2/vessels.json?bbox={47,44,51,46}&api_key={API key}
More details about our APIs http://ais.owm.io/api

UV index is now available via OpenWeatherMap API!
The Global Solar UV Index (UVI) describes the level of solar UV radiation at the Earth’s surface. The values of the index range from zero upward – the higher the index value, the greater the potential for damage to the skin and eye, and the less time it takes for harm to occur.
Interpreting of the UV Index and recommended protection established by the World Health Organization are provided to help your customers to avoid harmful exposure of UV radiation.
Current UV index (Clear Sky) and historical data are available for any geo location (lat/lon) in JSON http://openweathermap.org/api_uv
