Hmmm...very tempting but I don't think I'd be able to get a $270 purchase past the financial controller without her noticing (and calling it into question).:http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=4625:https://fbexternal-a.akamaihd.net/safe_image.php?d=AQCiGwTd2ITTPwdq&url=http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/../images/catalog/Gopro-outdoor-2.jpg

The very end of last night's sunset (once again I was commuting for most of it). This is a quick 3 frame stitch with the iPhone, Autostitch, a little tweak in Snapseed & Camera+ border.

Well, I already have a D700 and I don't have $4000 (or anywhere near it) and am unlikely to any time soon, but I'm sorely tempted to work on a "business case" to approach management with.

Some highlights:
- 36MP (strewth! that's medium format territory!!!!!)
- ISO 100 (I use the low sensitivity end far more than the high ISO range)
- USB 3.0
- Video: 30fps @ 1080p and 60fps @ 720p

Makes me feel like grabbing my tripod and heading down to the beach for sunset...but I'm stuck at work. :(

Is James Morrison not one of the best jazz musicians out there? I've always thought he was very under-rated from right back in his Postcards from Down Under days. Who else can play Blues for Judy like James? Man, he's good.

Australia really does produce some excellent jazz musicians. (Tommy Emmanuel is another highly under-rated Aussie musician.)

The sky was pretty nice on Friday night, but I was on a train (on the way home from work) and all I had with me was my iPhone. So this was the best I could do through the grotty window of a moving train. Perhaps +Chase Jarvis is right - the best camera is the one you have with you. ;-)

Football NSW HPU has been posting some good links on Facebook. Here's a good one they posted: about an hour of Jose Mourinho coaching youth with a lot of explanation of aims, progressions, etc. of a training session, and some good insights scattered amongst it all from names like Drogba, Villas-Boas, & Carvalho. If you have a spare hour, go grab a brew and sit down & have a watch (although you have to pay attention as half of it is in Portuguese with subtitles).

Karsh is one of my all time favourite photographers. He managed to make such simple portraits so spell-binding. How someone captures so completely the soul of their subject in a single frame is unfathomable.
Masters of Photography originally shared:

Yousuf Karsh

I really can't stop to think about photography, i've found an incredible world where i'm getting lost. I'm totally amazed by the pictures i see here in G+.
Still i believe here we are just a niche of the big world of photography, so this evening i've started a small research about the most influential photographers ever, the ones who changed our perception of the world, the ones who made history.

I won't start with Ivo Jima Flags, or V-J Kisses, or Moonrises, bit with some big faces that changed our history. I've seen those pictures hundred of times, just today i've learned the name of their author: Yousuf Karsh

Yousuf Karsh, CC (December 23, 1908 – July 13, 2002) was a Canadian photographer of Armenian heritage, and one of the most famous and accomplished portrait photographers of all time.

“I have found that great people do have in common an immense belief in themselves and in their mission. They also have great determination as well as an ability to work hard. At the crucial moment of decision, they draw on their accumulated wisdom. Above all, they have integrity.”

“I've also seen that great men are often lonely. This is understandable, because they have built such high standards for themselves that they often feel alone. But that same loneliness is part of their ability to create.”

“I try to photograph people's spirits and thoughts. As to the soul-taking by the photographer, I don't feel I take away, but rather that the sitter and I give to each other. It becomes an act of mutual participation.”

“Character, like a photograph, develops in darkness.”

“Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera.”

Introduction
I am a currently Database Administrator at a law firm, but would rather be down at a beach or headland with my camera listening to the waves & the ka-chink of the shutter in the scant light of nautical twilight.  I maintain accounts at Flickr and deviantArt, and also a couple other blogs (eg. SQL Rocks and The noblest Roman) that are sadly neglected these days.

I live with my wife & 3 kids in Sydney’s north and tend to spend a fair bit of time coaching junior football (a.k.a. soccer), now that my knees aren’t so happy with me playing any more (or perhaps it was skiing bumps at Falls Creek every year as a kid that killed my knees).  When the opportunity presents itself I like to get up at 4am, jump in my beat up, old car, and make a beeline to one of the awesome headlands around Sydney’s Northern Beaches or NSW’s Central Coast.
