We incorporate real life situations, that our clients encounter on a daily basis, into their lesson so we can show how to help their dog with all situations. Often times you can be shown how to deal with such things such as a dog, skateboard, bouncing ball or a kid on a walk, but when you practice and do, and are successful you don't gain the confidence you need to be the leader. We want to set everyone up to succeed so it is important that we recreate "life situations" so that us as humans can lead our dogs to learn not to be scared, or unsure about the scary stuff.

We often set out to be a success.. after all this is what has been instilled in us since we were little. Although we all have different levels and ideas of what success is, it is still often our end goal.

Success can be as simple as learning someone's name, or getting your dog to sit. Whatever we set out to do we feel as though we are either successful or non successful.. a winner or loser. What we often miss is that is isn't about that triumph, it should be about what value did we add to the process.

Take teaching a dog how to sit. You can teach them how to sit pretty quickly.. or you can teach them how to, why, and when. It's not just about the act of sitting, it's about the relationship that you build.

You have the opportunity to teach the significance of the act.. to help them truly understand the purpose behind it. It isn't about being a dictator or exerting power, it's about adding value to what you are doing.

Sit is a just an example. When you focus more on adding value rather than checking off that it was a success, you will find that success will start to find you.

Resistance .. Lurking in the shadows

Do things that you are unfamiliar with, that are new, different, strange, unconventional or just don't understand creating fear or anxiety in you?

This is a totally normal human instinct to be unsure of the abnormal that comes into our lives. Whether it be a new job, new environment, or a new person there is something different. Something that they ( the new person or environment ) do that maybe you haven't seen or experienced.. maybe it's something that you have a preconceived notion or idea as to how it will be... yet you truly don't know how it will turn out.

This will often cause resistance. Resistance in the fact that it is different. We often get comfortable, or complacent in our lives. When this is disrupted it creates change, in turn takes you out of your comfort zone!

How do we adapt and absorb this new abnormality in our life? There are several different approaches. When something is new, we pay attention to it, initially in case it a threat or an opportunity and then in order to become familiar with it. When it is familiar, we pay less attention, taking it for granted.

The same thing happens with life circumstances. When we are in a new situation, we pay attention to the many new things, have a heightened sense of awareness. We start with observation, judgment, and sometimes this leads to making rash decisions. Decisions that could have a substantial effect that could trigger a series of events that may have not been necessary.

To help in these times of change and new things if we change the way that we respond then the outcome will be different. By this I mean if instead of jumping to conclusions, we educate and communicate this will not only cause you less stress, but this could help change your whole life.

This is the same for your dogs! Dog's often react and sometimes with some pretty nasty behavior's that could change their life. However if we take the time to educate and communicate to them to help them better understand what is going on you will often see a different ending to the story. Where as before they might have displayed some poor decision making resulting in a dog fight. Now after you help them to understand dogs, and they truly understand they might end up being best friends and love to play.

Whether it is you or your dog take the time to educate yourself to help set you up for success to a better life!

It is said that a powerful man knows how to build an empire with the same stones thrown at us. The unknown doesn't have to be the enemy, instead can be your friend

Working with a frightened dog takes attention and great care to be sure. But the training itself doesn’t have to be all that complicated.

When you have a nervous, anxious, or frightened dog they need guidance and leadership.

Think of a dark alley in a neighborhood filled with crime. It's late at night and no light to help infiltrate the black of night. The only thing that you can see are the shadows the dumpsters are creating.

Now think of a kid 7 to 10 years old. Walking down that alley either by theirselves or with a friend the same age. You know that anything and everything is sending them pretty much into panicvile. Almost to the end of the path someone comes out from the shadows. I don't have to tell you the fear going through their minds. The sound of even a wrapper moving from the wind will make them react a lot differently than if they were playing in their front yard.

Now same alley same kid. This time holding a cops hand, or a comp on both sides. Chances are the child is not near having the same level of concern as in the first scenario. Why??? Because there is that faith, trust and security of someone being in charge, taking the weight and worry away.

This is what it's like for the dog. They need that cop to walk with them, to advocate for them.. To be there... To be consistent.

A lot of the dogs we get that are considered aggressive are in fact anxious or fearful. They often react at the smallest things ( much like the wrapper in the wind) only difference is they often use their teeth to communicate.

When we help advocate for the dog, and the humans and explain and educate through communication, you see a whole new world!

Gabby (white and brown dragging a leash) was brought to us because she thought she was in control of her family (human pack). Putting her in with a large dog pack where everyone respects the humans is a great way to help her learn to trust and respect humans leadership.

"People know that the gold is there, but they are too lazy to pick up the shovel and start digging" ~Jim Rohn~
Whether you are wanting to improve/change your life, your dog, your career or your future you have to be willing to put in the dedication and work. This is a must to be able to improve your current situation, if not then your life will stay the same.
It is so hard when you see something that you want to change or do and do not follow through with it disappear. There are some very simple things that are required to do this, yet they are often made out to be much harder than what they are. The want, hunger, and willingness to do what it takes to accomplish your goal is all that is required.
You have to want to change. You have to want to get something more or different. Without the want or desire to transform then it will never happen. If you are wanting to change your dog's bad habits on the walk, then it is possible. It is available because the desire to move forward will be with in reach.
A deep hunger is a must. Without the deep yearning to better your current situation you will never succeed. Like many life goals you have to be so famished with such hunger that you are doing everything, absolutely everything possible to get to the top of where you want to go. With this hunger comes sacrifice. If you are wanting the dog that you desire, you have to be willing to sacrifice your time, and accept change.
These things all seem simple and easy, yet there are so many times that we hear the excuses that come with lack of one of these components. To get the dog, the relationship, or the behavior that you want you have to look at yourself and ask if you are willing to put in the work that is required to get there. If not then that lies on you and not anyone else. It is so easy to blame not taking your dog on a walk on your job keeping you late, you like to sleep in and are not a morning person, or that it is date night. However once we start holding ourselves accountable, we can then hold our dog accountable.
