there was a person i knew in the Googleverse, and whom i liked, but he proved himself to be irrationally defensive of the financial industry.
when i commented on how many people had been ruined through the unethical and often illegal actions of the US financial industry, he went on about how much money americans have. he mentioned savings, and 401k accounts, and retirement investments.
he had little to say when i reminded him that the financial "advisors" who handled those accounts had made many very bad bets, and lost the retirements of millions of people...that the robust american economy is nothing more than a memory, and the creeps who did this to us all are not only not
facing jail time, they were bailed out with tax dollars
, which they used to pay themselves, and their bonuses, but that very little of the money meant to help the little people ever made it to us.
he mentioned TARP specifically, so it was fun to let him know that the man hired to oversee TARP has recently published a book on what a load of shit it was, and how it helped no one but the bankers. http://www.amazon.com/Bailout-Washington-Abandoned-Street-Rescuing/dp/1451684959/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2UM0N5M73YOGA&coliid=I20BFNZYQGGBAZ
this dude is a Russian ex-pat, living in the UK. i never in a million years would have imagined having to convince a Russian of financial corruption...one would imagine they understand corruption better than almost anyone.
