Caprica - The Failed Battlestar Galactica Spin-Off (from my archives)
Back when I about 10 months got around to finish the whole first (and only) season of Caprica, I understood why it got canceled, but my hope for a second season was there nonetheless.

To those who do not know, Caprica was a spin-off prequel to the series Battlestar Galactica (the new re-imagined version). It takes place half a century before the events in Battlestar Galactica and revolves around the “birth” of the first Cylon.

When I began watching Caprica, I did so with 2-3 of my friends who all were fans of Battlestar Galactica, while I myself never had watched a single episode. For this reason we had very different entry points to the universe and expectations to Caprica. While I actually quite enjoyed Caprica and the focus on organized crime and the business side of new revolutionary technology, the friends I watched it with felt there were far too few sci-fi elements. So after season 1 “ended”, we stopped watching together and, as far as I know, I was the only one who continued with season 1.5.

Despite having many great aspects and ideas (especially the virtual reality world), Caprica still felt somewhat unpolished; especially season 1.5.
I, however, still think Caprica is worth giving a look if you enjoy sci-fi depicted through organized crime, religious conflict, and the arms industry.
