Simple, Though Captivating - Review of Martha Marcy May Marlene
I'm not sure how or when I first heard about Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011), but I back then somehow got it into my head that this was a movie I just had to watch. I did so without really knowing anything about its plot at all. I've since avoided getting any information about the movie, so that I would be able to watch it without having any idea of what it was about. This meant that when I began watching Martha Marcy May Marlene it was with curiosity and high hopes which I were a little afraid wouldn't be met. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised.

Martha Marcy May Marlene is a movie which takes its time and do not rush anything. I feel it benefited a lot from this way of telling its story, and almost every scene had a special kind of power because of this. One even more impressive aspect of Martha Marcy May Marlene is the portrayal of the main character Martha by Elizabeth Olsen. Since the movie to such a large degree is focused on Martha, it's very important to have a strong actress in the lead and I absolutely think Elizabeth Olsen did truly amazing. It is no wonder she has been nominated for and won so many awards for her part in the movie.

Once in a while I come across a movie which not only captivates me during the movie but ends in such a powerful way that I during the credits sit almost frozen in amazement. Martha Marcy May Marlene is one of few movies which managed this, alongside other recent movies like Drive, Another Earth, and The Descendants. Don't get me wrong, Martha Marcy May Marlene didn't manage to get up among my favorite movies, but it did impress quite thoroughly. This is a movie I won't soon forget.
