I've been receiving weird voice mails from a woman in Germany since 2011.   Very strange and creepy.  Hear the recordings and add your theory here: http://matthewcevans.com/blog/2015/10/07/blackheaded-seagull-my-google-voicemail-stalker/
I was one of the early adopters of Google Voice where you could have an additional telephone number for free that could be rerouted to another phone or go straight to voice mail. Starting on May 16, 2011 at 9:15 PM I received the first strange voice mail from this phone number: +49223482433 “Black-headed seagull. … Continue reading Black-headed Seagull – My Google Voicemail Stalker →

I volunteered for the UK Run or Dye 5K run on Saturday at Castle Howard. Advertised as the World's Most Colorful 5K, our job was in color station #4 where we threw the orange color on the 1700+ participants.  Needless to say, all the volunteers at our stations were a bright orange by the time we were done, but everyone had a great time.  At the end of the race everyone participated in a color war to use up all the rest of the dye.  Luckily the dye comes out with a quick shower and a spin through the laundry.  The colors came directly from India where they use them for the Holi, the Festival of Color.    #RunOrDyeUK

Couldn't have been a better Yorkshire day. Cool mist in the morning,
turning to fluffy white clouds on blue sky with a cool breeze. And then it
poured rain the entire next day. Typical....

We'll be spending the weekend getting into the start of the Tour de France in North Yorkshire.  Hopefully you can get a chance to see some of our new neighborhood on the TV this weekend.

From a friends refrigerator.  You have to push the "Ice Type" button to switch between cube, crush and water.  I wasn't aware that water was a type of ice....

I finally got a chance to see bell ringing in person at Saint Martin's Church in York.  There is little to no communication between bell ringers other than the leader occasionally calling out a new peal such as Cambridge, Superlative, and Bristol.

My ear can't tell the difference between the peals, nor can I figure out which person is ringing which particular bell.  Lots more to learn here, but they didn't stop ringing long enough for me to ask all my questions.

I never saw the church.  I went to their WEB site, and it looks interesting.  Something for me to do next time.
Here is a link to the information about the bells:  http://www.stmartinsyork.org.uk/bells.html

Last night was the end of the world.  Everyone still here?  A few photos from the Ragnarok in Jorvik (York) show ended in a massive battle and fireworks display on and over Clifford's Tower.  I'm not sure if there were more people in the show or watching the show.

Apparently I'm the last person in the world (at least this part of the world...) to find out about the musical group Boney M.  Read on...

Wow, I guess I have a long way to go with education of the British pop culture. I've never heard of this group. I must say however, that I'm somewhat glad I've never heard of them as they are very far from my cup of tea, as I imagine a person from England might say.
What a great opportunity you guys have to experience the English culture first hand and the opportunity to more easily travel within Europe. I will be very interested to learn what you think of your experience in a couple of years. Enjoy!!

Congratulations to +Karla Evans.  One of her latest papers on the assessment of mammography and cervical cancers has been picked up by a number of the science & medical web sites.

Have you ever thought that you knew something about the world in the blink of an eye? This restaurant is not the right place for dinner. That person could be The One. It turns out that radiologists can do this with mammograms, the x-ray images used for breast cancer screening. Cytologists, who screen micrographic images of cervical cells to detect cervical cancer, have a similar ability. A new study, published in Springer's journal Psychonomi...

This a must-go to stop when we are in Newcastle. The bubble tea is great, but the bubble pancake is even better as they make them fresh for you as soon as you order. Wish they would offer a Thai iced tea version of the their bubble tea, but the regular milk tea or coconut tea is good for now.

This is the go to place for coffee on Bishopthorpe Road! The outdoor seating with blankets for the cooler temperatures is a nice touch. They also offer coffee themed cocktails on Friday nights, but haven't tried that yet.

York Plumbing & Heating has been great in taking over our yearly maintenance of our heating and hot water system in the house that went neglected by the previous owners. It is easy to schedule a maintenance visit via phone or text message. They are always willing to answer all of my many questions about the operation and care of the system, and would definitely recommend them to someone else looking to service or install a new system.

First time visitor. Brought the kids along (ages 4 and 9) to do some climbing. Filling out the forms from their website in advance is recommended to avoid the paperwork. They got us up and climbing very quickly, and there were plenty of routes that could be completed by both of the kids and it wasn't too crowded so we could always climb when we wanted. The cafe also is great for a quick bite, a coffee and a break from the climbing.

All garden shops should have a cafe as good as Jennie's at Vertigrow. Originally stopped in for a thirsty child, stayed for hot tea, fruit scone with butter and jam, and a salt lake caramel biscuit as well. A nice break from the walking around all the different plants on offer in the nursery.

Consider this more of a walk with some historical signposts rather than a destination. There are the ruins of a church that are worth exploring, but other than the church and the graveyard it is mostly open fields with some foundation stones. Overall the trip was enjoyable, but a local walk closer to home might save time in the car.
