I've been receiving weird voice mails from a woman in Germany since 2011.   Very strange and creepy.  Hear the recordings and add your theory here: http://matthewcevans.com/blog/2015/10/07/blackheaded-seagull-my-google-voicemail-stalker/
I was one of the early adopters of Google Voice where you could have an additional telephone number for free that could be rerouted to another phone or go straight to voice mail. Starting on May 16, 2011 at 9:15 PM I received the first strange voice mail from this phone number: +49223482433 “Black-headed seagull. … Continue reading Black-headed Seagull – My Google Voicemail Stalker →

I volunteered for the UK Run or Dye 5K run on Saturday at Castle Howard. Advertised as the World's Most Colorful 5K, our job was in color station #4 where we threw the orange color on the 1700+ participants.  Needless to say, all the volunteers at our stations were a bright orange by the time we were done, but everyone had a great time.  At the end of the race everyone participated in a color war to use up all the rest of the dye.  Luckily the dye comes out with a quick shower and a spin through the laundry.  The colors came directly from India where they use them for the Holi, the Festival of Color.    #RunOrDyeUK

Couldn't have been a better Yorkshire day. Cool mist in the morning,
turning to fluffy white clouds on blue sky with a cool breeze. And then it
poured rain the entire next day. Typical....

We'll be spending the weekend getting into the start of the Tour de France in North Yorkshire.  Hopefully you can get a chance to see some of our new neighborhood on the TV this weekend.

From a friends refrigerator.  You have to push the "Ice Type" button to switch between cube, crush and water.  I wasn't aware that water was a type of ice....

I finally got a chance to see bell ringing in person at Saint Martin's Church in York.  There is little to no communication between bell ringers other than the leader occasionally calling out a new peal such as Cambridge, Superlative, and Bristol.

My ear can't tell the difference between the peals, nor can I figure out which person is ringing which particular bell.  Lots more to learn here, but they didn't stop ringing long enough for me to ask all my questions.

I never saw the church.  I went to their WEB site, and it looks interesting.  Something for me to do next time.
Here is a link to the information about the bells:  http://www.stmartinsyork.org.uk/bells.html

Last night was the end of the world.  Everyone still here?  A few photos from the Ragnarok in Jorvik (York) show ended in a massive battle and fireworks display on and over Clifford's Tower.  I'm not sure if there were more people in the show or watching the show.

Apparently I'm the last person in the world (at least this part of the world...) to find out about the musical group Boney M.  Read on...

Wow, I guess I have a long way to go with education of the British pop culture. I've never heard of this group. I must say however, that I'm somewhat glad I've never heard of them as they are very far from my cup of tea, as I imagine a person from England might say.
What a great opportunity you guys have to experience the English culture first hand and the opportunity to more easily travel within Europe. I will be very interested to learn what you think of your experience in a couple of years. Enjoy!!

Congratulations to +Karla Evans.  One of her latest papers on the assessment of mammography and cervical cancers has been picked up by a number of the science & medical web sites.

Have you ever thought that you knew something about the world in the blink of an eye? This restaurant is not the right place for dinner. That person could be The One. It turns out that radiologists can do this with mammograms, the x-ray images used for breast cancer screening. Cytologists, who screen micrographic images of cervical cells to detect cervical cancer, have a similar ability. A new study, published in Springer's journal Psychonomi...

This is THE place to go for fish and chips when in Whitby. Just remember to cover your box and watch for birds when crossing the street as the seagulls can be aggressive. Our friend was visiting and got the full treatment with fish in the street and about 20 gulls that swooped down and ate the fish in about 5 seconds. Impressive, as it takes me at least 30 seconds!

This is our go to car rental in York. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I was able to leave my bike here for the weekend when we rented a car, which makes pickup and drop off easy. Check prices online for comparison, and follow up the online request with a phone call if you need to confirm availability quickly.

What a gem! We found this place using our noses as the wonderful smells of fresh bread was wafting down the street. Once inside we found that our noses weren't wrong. The baked goods are fantastic (I've never enjoyed just a plain bun before at any other bakery, but this is great just by itself, or get eggs and bacon on it for overkill), they make a very nice latte, and the staff is nicer and more attentive than any multi starred restaurant I've been in. If you are in the neighbourhood, go!

This was a last minute reservation for our group. We were very nicely accommodated, and had great rooms at a reasonable price. Though upstairs from a restaurant and bar, the noise was not a problem. Breakfast the next morning was tasty and filling, and kippers were available. We'd definitely come back again during a future visit to Seahouses.

Brought 8 and 9 year old boys here. Plenty to keep them busy, particularly on the football pitch and shooting gallery with foam balls. A little noisy indoors for the adults, but worst case you go outside. Need to get them back to try the high wires.

We were told that The Olde Ship Inn was not to be missed while in Seahouses, and they were right. While drinks in the bar wasn't possible as the kids were along, having drinks in back was still very enjoyable and there are lots of things to see throughout the restaurant. There is so much maritime memorabilia it would take a LOT of drinks to see everything. Definitely would come back again on a future visit.

This was a last minute reservation for us. Hotel is nice, new and clean. The kids enjoyed the play area out in front, as well as the grass area in back for a little football. Breakfast was good and everyone found something they enjoyed. Only downside was that I would have preferred a more comfortable mattress.
