Introduction

Travell Eiland joined WESH 2 News in October 2012. He joined WESH 2 News from our sister station, WAPT-TV, in Jackson, Mississippi. There, he served as morning co-anchor.

Before coming to Jackson, Travell served as investigative reporter and fill-in anchor for WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, and reporter, KLAS-TV, Las Vegas; WWSB-TV, Sarasota, and WAND-TV, Decatur, Illinois. During his time in Las Vegas, Travell covered several high profile stories, such as the O.J. Simpson robbery and kidnapping case and magician David Copperfield's rape investigation.

Travell grew up in “Chicagoland” and graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in broadcast journalism and television. After college, he moved on to Washington, D.C., where he studied political reporting at American University and worked at The Tribune National News Bureau on Capitol Hill. During his time in Washington, he covered the “DC Sniper” attacks, and got his first taste of covering politics. Travell also attended Jackson State University as a graduate student studying political science.

Travell is an award-winning journalist. He has been recognized by the Associated Press for individual achievement, breaking news coverage and his reporting during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. He was named Best On-Air Presence by the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Travell’s professional memberships include The National Association of Black Journalists, Investigative Reporters and Editors, and Board of Directors for The Jazz Steppers Drill Team and Drum Corps.

Travell gives his time back to the community. Over the years, he's volunteered for a number of non-profit organizations including The Urban League and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
