"The Haunting of a Promise."
A large and stately old building stands on the edge of town, quiet and alone. A dense forest stretches out surrounding the building, isolating the sorrows locked within the walls. The sign on the front reads: 'Bathgate Asylum'.

"Ya, I remember that place. They had my mother locked up out there for years; crazy they said after she killed my father with a shovel. I don't know, maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. I know she protected us from him after he raped my two younger sisters. Anna bled out on the floor so mom and I buried her out back. My other sister got crazy spells, or something like that they said, so they took her away, don't know where, but she never came back. That's when they came for my mom. I was only twelve. It was one hell of time until Father Fry was kind enough to take me in. I guess God did me a favour...ya know, kept me alive. The only thing is, why. Hell has always been at my door. I've just been there and back too many times," turning his head towards the dark figure standing in the hallway.
"And now you want a miracle, is that it?"
"No, I don't want no miracle. Wouldn't know what to do with it even if I had it. Are we done?"
"Not quite. You made a promise when you were twelve. Do you remember?"
"That's sixty years ago," leaning towards the fireplace lighting his pipe with a small flamed stick, then laying his head back. "No, I don't remember any promises I made."
"Think about your mother."
"You can have her. I don't need anyone now."
"You're wrong Joseph."
"No one's called me that since I was a kid. It was alway Joey."
"Your mom called you Joseph, remember?"
"Ya, I remember. So what?"
"How about that promise Joseph?"
"Alright, alright...I remember. I promised her I'd take care of her when she got out of that Asylum. But she never got out."
"You're wrong."
"What do ya mean I'm wrong? The Asylum sent me a letter twenty years ago with her death certificate. Now I think we're done."
"She waited."
Silence.
"She waited Joseph, but you never came."
Silence.
"She's still waiting by the front gate Joseph. How long are you going to let her wait?"
"I'm not listening to you. We're done," turning his head toward the shadowed hallway. There was no one there. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. The pounding got louder...and louder, and loader!
"No! I'm not answering the door! Leave me alone!"
Again the pounding started...louder and louder until Joseph screamed "No more! I can't stand it!"
The door slammed open. His mother stood there in the shadows lurking into the room, then slowly crawling back into the darkness. The small embers in the fireplace were still burning. Joseph was gone.

Warmth in a Winter Wonderland - Blanketing
There are a lot of differing opinions in the horse industry when it comes to blanketing horses. Some groups believe that a horse is perfectly fine in their own winter coat as long as they have a form of wind break and shelter wherever they may be.... Photo ...
