What if economic growth isn’t as positive as you think? - When Donald Trump says “Make America Great Again,” he’s alluding, at least in part, to the promise of economic growth. Just as when Bill Clinton said, “it’s the economy, stupid,” he was really saying that “it’s about economic growth, stupid.” This is the Golden Promise of politics: more economic growth. Golden, because it is effortlessly translated in voters’ minds to mean more jobs, more money in the economy, and therefore more inco...

Tech companies are starting to realize that and are making apps and products that can help time-strapped art lovers–and they just got a little boost from the Knight Foundation’s...

Elon Musk accuses Thai cave rescue diver of being a pedophile - Musk appears to be about as thick-skinned as Donald Trump. The bizarre and presumably completely unfounded claim came after a British diver, Vernon Unsworth, who helped rescue the 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand, called Musk’s offer to use a SpaceX-made mini-sub in the rescue a “PR stunt” in an interview with CNN. Unsworth explained: “It just had absolutely no chance of working. He had no co...

The strike was organized by a group calling itself Amazon En Lucha and will see workers at a large Amazon facility just outside Madrid go on strike from now until July 18, the day after Prime Day 2018 ends. World Cup Final 2018 live stream: How to watch the big France-Croatia game without a TV - After 31 days, 63 games, countless tears, and at least one teeth-grinding YouTube TV outage, it all comes down to this. The FIFA World Cup will come to a close today as France takes on Croatia for the 2018 World Cup Final. The two teams are set to face off at 11 a.m. ET at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. I make no predictions about the outcome, except to say the game is likely to draw a massive U.S. audienc...

The mistake that almost got me fired but transformed my career - In my early career I thought I was pretty smart. One time my boss made a decision I didn’t agree with, and I picked it apart, thinking I knew better than they did. I even went so far as to resist the change he’d proposed–by finding others to complain to and by challenging my boss himself in group meetings. Rather than help, I dug in my heels and became an obstacle for others to navigate around. Luckily, someone else on my team...

Camouflaging diversity issues isn’t the same as solving them - Want a foolproof way to gauge a company’s true commitment to diversity and inclusion? Don’t listen to the messages corporate leaders are trumpeting. Instead, just count the keynote speakers at the events and conferences the company hosts and participates in. That metric is much more telling–but it can be a harder measure to take. Indeed, companies sometimes find creative ways to appear more embracing of diversity and inclusion t...

This is what helped me take over as CEO after my husband died - On the Monday after the Friday my husband died, I left our three small children in the care of our heartbroken family and drove to his office. Years earlier, when we were newlyweds and he was student teaching, Alan had taught himself to code, building a handful of online educational video games for elementary-school students. When he noticed his colleagues using his creations in their lesson plans, Alan saw an entrepreneurial o...
