Who can participate?
Women from women’s or social development organisations based in Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya, Iraq or Yemen who have a commitment or passion for women’s issues. Women who are involved in media and communication particularly for human rights advocacy and, preferably, women who have had some experience handling digital cameras to video document their work, stories of women they work with or human rights violations happening in their countries or areas. Gmedia center welcomes the passage of a Human Rights Council Resolution on the Safety of Journalists on 27 September 2012.
The Council "condemns in the strongest terms all attacks and violence against journalists, such as torture, extraju...dicial killings, enforced disappearances and arbitrary detention, as well as intimidation and harassment".

Online Spanish-language course for journalists open (Application Deadline 21 October 2012)
Spanish-speaking journalists, editors and communication specialists can participate in this online course.
The course, organized by the Centro de Formación en Periodismo Digital - CFPD and taught by Esther Vargas, will teach participants how to develop strategies for managing social networks and maximizing online presence.
To participate, applicants must have experience using Internet browsers and social media to spread information.
The course will be conducted online November 5 to December 9. During these five weeks, participants should devote 10 to 12 hours per week to the course.
The cost to enroll is MXN1,000 or US$100 for foreigners and residents outside of Mexico.
The deadline for registration is October 21.

Fellowships for investigative journalism workshop open [Latin America] (Application Deadline 19 October 2012)

Mid-career journalists from Latin American media organizations can participate in this contest.
Transparency International, the International Anti-Corruption conference and the Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS) are offering scholarships for 15 journalists to participate in a workshop on investigative journalism and a subsequent competition for project financing.
The workshop will take place November 7 to 10 in Brasilia, Brazil, in conjunction with the 15th International Anti-Corruption Conference.
During the first two days, participants will engage in high-level investigative training. On the third day, participants will meet individually with three professional journalists, who will advise them on their research projects.
The 15 selected journalists will receive roundtrip airfare to Brasilia from their home cities, accommodation during the days of the workshop, and a stipend for food and transportation.
The deadline to apply for a scholarship is October 19.

Scripps Howard internships accepting applications (Application Deadline 1 November 2012)
Undergraduate juniors or seniors studying journalism can apply for a paid internship in Washington, D.C.
The Scripps Howard Foundation Wire is seeking spring interns to report on politics, government, breaking news, sports, and features.
Interns will receive a US$2,520 stipend for the spring semester. All interns receive free housing.
Experts from the Supreme Court, The Washington Post, the State Department and others will offer interns tips on how to better cover the news.
Applicants must submit a resume, five work samples, recommendation letters, references and an essay analyzing a story reported from Washington.
The deadline is November 1.

Journalists Against Terror contest open [Russia] (Deadline 9 October 2012)

Journalists who are Russian citizens can participate in this contest.

The Russian Union of Journalists is seeking participants for the "Journalists Against Terror"...contest. The contest aims to increase the role of Russian media and the journalistic community in the fight against terrorism.
Submissions should highlight topics such as "Terrorism: Past and Present," "Victims of Terror" and "Heroes of Anti-Terror." Articles must have been published in the official print and electronic media between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012.
The winners in each category will be awarded with various certificates and prizes, including a Nikon 1 camera and the possibility of publication in well-known Russian magazines.
The deadline is October 9.

Journalism free training program in Sao Paulo, Brazil (Application Deadline 5 November 2012)
Journalism seniors and recent graduates can apply for this free training program in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Folha de S. Paulo is accepting application...s for its 2013 newspaper program. During four months, participants will learn how to produce a newspaper, work alongside professionals in the newsroom and receive journalism training.
All entrants must take a multiple choice test online. Between 250 and 300 candidates are called for a second exam with multiple choice and essay questions that will test proficiency in Portuguese, mathematics, English and general knowledge.
The 40 candidates with the best results in the second test are called to participate in a week of lectures and activities in Sao Paulo, and undergo individual interviews. At the end of the process, up to 12 candidates are selected for each class.
Candidates must apply online. The application deadline is November 5.
