To Whom It May Concern: This blog has been snoozing gently, minding its own business, for more than a year. The recent changes to about.me have, one the one hand, made it easier to maintain my profile but, on the other, require me to say what I want the idl...

Here's a thought.
Jeremy Corbyn: throwback to Labour's catastrophic drubbing in 1983. Some say he goes back much further. Others that he is actually quite new.
Let me remind you of another time within living memory (of sufficiently old people). A time when the government was managing on a slender majority. When the establishment consensus was fraying. When a narrow elite was putting together deals as to how the country was run. When ordinary people were seeing their standard of living relentlessly slide. When our place in the world was becoming less and less significant. When there seemed to be no realistic alternative to endless compromise with the ruling settlement: when anything else would be unelectable. And when the opposition was our of ideas, out of charisma and out of juice.
When another firebrand found themselves at the helm of a reluctant ship. When they took on the grey conspiracy of mediocrity that ran their party and dragged it and the nation, screaming and kicking, into a new world. To the sage commentators of the day, there seemed no realistic possibility of radical change. By its nature radical change looks impossible before it happens and inevitable after.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Jeremy Corbyn turned out to be another Margaret Hilda Thatcher?

Should you happen to be in the smoke on Sunday morning, between midnight and (I really, really hope) about 8, and feel like mocking the exhausted, this is where I'll be. Or you could luxuriate in bed with coffee bacon eggs and papers and enjoy the fact that you haven't been out on the streets all night. It's my gift to you.

If by some oversight you haven't quite got round to contributing to the build of Berkshire's first children's hospice, you would of course be more than welcome to pop in here:

Say what you like about US politics, but...

Here's a nice, colourful map to make the 2015 election crystal clear.

From a Hong Kong Primary school entrance test. What is the number under the car? Not hard, but neat.
