Always a pleasure to join Paul Brown on Capital Tonight.
Chuck Smith, the executive director for Equality Texas, gives his take on Tuesday's Supreme Court arguments on same-sex marriage. He explains what it means for similar cases in Texas, and his concerns about a legislative push in Texas to undercut the Supreme Court's decision.

We love our Legislative Updates in Texas! Especially when they include a needed civics lesson for lawmakers.

In this week's Legislative Update: The lege gets underway, the House selects a speaker and adopts rules, we give Rep. Cecil Bell a civics lesson and looking forward to the Senate adopting rules next week. Find out what's going on, then use our Action Center to contact your lawmakers at http://equalityfederation.salsalabs.com/o/35034/p/dia/action/public/index.sjs?action_KEY=1507

WATCH: "Until We Could", a poem by inaugural poet Richard Blanco commissioned by Freedom to Marry to mark the 10 year anniversary of the freedom to marry in Massachusetts. The film was produced in Austin by Arts+Labor with a local cast. "Town by town, city by city, state by state", please share if you're ready for the freedom to marry in Texas.

Some people teach others how to live fully. James Ragan is one those people. Please watch, and then go live today to its fullest.

Today is the deadline for opponents of the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance to turn in petition signatures to repeal the ordinance. They are expected to do so at 3:00 p.m. At 3:45 p.m. Mayor Parker will hold a press conference in the City Hall Rotunda (900 Bagby St) highlighting the voices of people directly affected by the ordinance. Be part of history by adding your presence to this important event.

WATCH & then TAKE ACTION!
Today, Chairman Rafael Anchía made an impassioned speech in support of accurate birth certificates for Texas children with two moms or two dads. Ask your state representative and senator to support this legislation using the EQTX ACTION CENTER at http://bit.ly/1wZtsJE

“These petitions simply ask each licensing board to enforce the existing laws.  Attempting to change a person’s sexual orientation under the guise of professionally administered ‘therapy’ violates the standard of care of each of these professions.  Hiding behind a license to bill someone for these so-called services is little more than theft."

Mental health professionals representing the five major disciplines filed rulemaking petitions today calling on their Texas licensing boards to clearly outlaw efforts to change a person’s sexual orientation as violations of the standards of care applicable to their professions and a dangerous fraud on the public. It’s time for the Texas state licensing agencies for mental health professionals to go on record against these fraudulent and often dangerous techniques. Please "+1" and share if you agree.

This blatant discrimination needs to stop. Now.

A California woman moves to Texas for business and is denied a Texas driver's license because she's married to a woman. Texas DPS employees are given discretion on whether to accept out-of-state ID as an identity document. In this case the DPS has chosen to use that discretion to blatantly discriminate based on sexual orientation. Since Texas has no protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression on the part of state employees these actions will, for the time being, stand. Equality Texas is committed to pursuing full equality for all Texans. Join them in that effort http://bit.ly/EQTXAction
Connie Wilson says the Texas Department of Public Safety refused her a driver's license because her last name was changed through a same-sex marriage.

It's time for all Texans to join together and tell Gov. Perry and AG Abbott that their appeal of the freedom to marry is hurting families each and every day. Sign the petition urging them to let this year's historic marriage ruling stand, and we'll hand-deliver your signature. Sign now at http://bit.ly/TexasAG
