Did you know that which cell phone carrier you use can affect the level of EMFs you are exposed to?
In this post I share which ones Dr. Martin Blank says are the best, plus other tips to help you reduce your family's exposure.
Mommypotamus note: This post is a follow-up to “5 Facts Every Parent Should Know About EMFs.” If you haven’t read that one, you may want to start there and then come back. Okay, let’s jump in! Maybe I’m wrong, but I think a lot of us . . . Have probably looked at the world’s problems [&hellip

Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin swears by them, but once jokingly added that she hasn't "tried to bathe in ketchup or soy sauce or anything."

What are we talking about? MUSTARD BATHS, of course! In this post I explain all about the history of this warming bath, which has long been used as a comfort measure for colds and flus, achy muscles and stressful days.
Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin swears by them . . . but once jokingly added that she hasn’t “tried to bathe in ketchup or soy sauce or anything.” (source 1, source 2) What on earth is she talking about? Why, mustard baths, of course!  If the thought of putting mustard in your tub instead of on, say, your grain-free burger has your brain [&hellip

Heads up! For the next THREE days I'm hosting a giveaway and sale for Branch Basics soap, which can be used as a laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaner, and even tear-free shampoo.

You know I love to DIY just about everything, but during the holidays I'm giving myself a pass to skip some of that and decorate cookies with the kids instead. I think you should give yourself one, too.

Pop over and enter now, because the winner will be announced this Thursday!
Ahhh, the holidays . . . A time to deck the halls, trim the tree, and hide your dirty dishes in the oven when your in-laws stop by for dinner. Oh, and gorge yourself on butter pecan cookies after the kids go to bed. You know I like to DIY everything from deodorant to detergent to shampoo, but [&hellip

"You may not realize it, but you are participating in an unauthorized experiment - 'the largest biological experiment ever.'"
That's how Dr. Martin Blank, who holds PhD's in physical chemistry and colloid science from Columbia University and The University of Cambridge respectively, opens his new book on EMF's.
In this post I share some insights I learned while reading - post on simple steps we can take to reduce exposure coming soon!
Welcome to a world in which more people have cell phones than toilets Yep, it’s weird but true. (source) If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering, “How did that happen? And more importantly, is it safe?” In Overpowered: The Dangers of Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF) and What You Can Do About It, Dr. Martin Blank tackles that question [&hellip

Did you know that you can wash your hair with MUD??? It's actually one of the best things to use if natural shampoo has left your hair feeling oily or limp.

I *may* have doused my head in oil and then washed with clay to prove this point.
I Wash My Hair With Mud And I clean my face with oil. Seriously, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried. The thing is, in an age where ramen noodle spa bath’s are not out of the question, the fact that a beauty treatment exists is not really saying much. So, rather than try [&hellip

Did you know that BPA-free products can contain a form of bisphenol that is potentially MORE TOXIC than BPA?
So, You’re Probably Normal When your sweet babe starting mouthing everything EXCEPT the toys you bought them for that specific purpose, you probably didn’t actually price XRF machines so that you could scan random objects for lead. Even if it was your first baby that would be just nuts. Ahem.  Fortunately, we don’t live in [&hellip

Introduction
Real food blogger, writer, wife, and mommy.

Frequent Blog Topics:

I’m a mom. I have two beautiful children that were born at home in my living room. You can read their stories here and here.

I’m a researcher. Questioning the status quo comes naturally to me, which is why I rely on evidence-based research to guide my decisions on vaccinations, birth, extended-breastfeeding, circumcision, real food and a bunch of other topics.

I’m a doer. For me, life’s pleasures come through the pursuit of the next goal. I love to DO, and to do well. Unfortunately, our society’s obsession with performance often becomes a pitfall. Who wants to be an amazing wife? Supermom? ME! Not to mention the other “master’s degrees” I am currently pursuing: chef, organic gardener, etc.

What’s wrong with this culture we live in? Nothing really, except that it’s totally unnatural. In the past, our desires were moderated by natural constraints. When someone was tired, they slept. Now they down a pot of coffee and keep going.

Everything is in hyperdrive. Consider this: It used to take 4-5 years for a cow to reach it’s mature weight, but through the “miracle” of science (i.e. liquified fat, protein supplements, synthetic estrogen and corn feed) it now only takes about sixteen months.

In our attempt to become uber-individuals we have lost touch with the natural rhythms and cycles that bring meaning and enjoyment to our lives.

What do I hope people will get out of this blog? I hope they will encounter ideas that help them re-establish rhythms and a connection to Nature without having to go out and live in the woods.

We are intentionally bringing Nature’s rhythms back into our lives, and we would love for you to take part in the process.

Some of you curious types may be asking yourselves, What is a Mommypotamus? If you want to know check out this post.
