I was interested in trying Steam, to see if the Linux client was any good. But I use Fedora, and the only package the main download page offered was for Ubuntu. So I wrote them an email asking if there were other Linux versions available.

The response from Steam was that I should uninstall my Steam instyou allation in my C:/Program Files folder and reinstall.

I was baffled. Not only had I clearly asked my question, my question in no way implied that I had anything at all to do with Windows. I'm sure Windows is a fine operating system for some, but that had nothing at all to do with my question. So I told them that they had not answered my question, and asked it again.

Meanwhile, I found that yes, there were rpm packages available for Steam. I downloaded and installed it, only to find that the only free game for Linux doesn't seem to work. I was about to email them to ask about that when I got the response from support: No, there are no packages for anyone other than Ubuntu, and that I should switch my OS to Ubuntu.

Steam be damned. I will do my gaming with a company whose customer support agents can pass a third-grade reading test.

All morning, the media's been desperately trying to find a connection to a terrorist organization in the Boston bombing. It's been really funny to listen to them keep saying "The latest report clearly says there's no terrorist connection, not network, absolutely nothing on the wire, and no one claiming responsibility, but we'll keep looking until we find the clearly obvious connection to somebody somewhere in the Middle East who knows somebody's grandmother who knows a woman whose grandson's cat was once owned by a member of Al-Queda."

I absolutely love my PS3, but I think I may need to get a gaming PC. I get really frustrated when someone in the house asks me to turn off the PS3 so they can use the television. (We have 2 televisions, but that's irrelevant.) And I can't get in enough game time to qualify for tournaments with someone always telling me to turn it off, and other people pressuring me to let them use the PS3 (Yes, my son, I'm looking at you.) So I need a good gaming PC. Then I won't have to share the television!

Tired of listening to people complain about presidents doing what every president has done. Dixie Chicks crucified for criticizing the president by people who now criticize the president. Republicans going after Obama for IRS investigations of conservative organizations, same for going after Democrats during Bush terms, and Republicans during Clinton's, and on and on. Tired of Congressmen blasting the administration for seizure of AP records while at the same time authorizing the administration and a host of others to sieze pretty much anyone's records and information without a warrant. Sick and bloody tired of the political drama and how disonnected politicians are with the REAL America --- the one that doesn't exist in DC. So fucking sick of it all. Fire them ALL, call a Constitutional Convention, change to direct democracy and let the people truly govern!!!!!!!!!!!

This is wonderful. The word Liberal is used as a slander by a lot of people on the extreme right of the political spectrum, usually the ones who can't hold an intelligent conversation. (I am by no means saying that everyone on the extreme right is an idiot. Just the ones that answer questions with insults and respond to facts with antagonism.)

My wife sent me this, because I'm not on Facebook because I like honesty and transparency when it comes to my privacy, and Facebook is evil and corrupt when it comes to those concerns. (Google+ is no better for privacy, but at leats Google tells you that upfront.) It's a post by Robert Reich, and I'm reposting it here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rand Paul is now near the top of the GOP's list of presidential contenders. Even Ted Cruz's star is rising.

I'm old enough to remember when there were liberal Republicans who joined with liberal Democrats to do what the nation needed, such as enacting the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, Medicare and Medicaid, and the Environmental Protection Act. But the Grand Old Party threw out its liberals and then kicked out its moderates, and is now the party of xenophobes, homophobes, mysogynists, and reactionaries -- who cling to their so-called right to own assault guns but don't give a hoot about the rights of Americans accused of crimes to have lawyers and criminal trials, who are so concerned about fetuses they deny women rights over their own bodies but don't give a damn about babies without adequate nourishment or health care, who refuse equal marriage rights but consider corporations people under the First Amendment, who don't want to close tax loopholes for the very rich but are eager to cut housing vouchers and Head Start for the poor, and who call themselves patriots and wrap themselves in the American flag but don't care enough about the well-being of their fellow Americans to want to finance good schools and adequate heath care for all.

Bobby Jindal calls the GOP the "stupid party" but I think he's being too generous. It's the regressive party, dedicated to an America that no longer exists if it ever did. Some say there's no real difference between Democrats and Republicans, but that's absurd. Just open your eyes. Our democracy needs at least two robust political parties but the GOP has proven itself incapable of governing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know there are tea party members following me, and I expect this post to draw fire. But it's reality. You cannot call yourself a patriot while condemning inner city youth, the vast majority of whom are American born citizens, to shiity education and malnutrition. You cannot claim coroprations are people without subjecting them to the same laws and regulations to which people are held.

Yes, my friends, there is tremendous waste in government. Government is constantly overreaching its authority. Examples are marijuana legalization (should be a state issue, not federal), copyright law (did you know that over 50,000 public domain works were pulled from public domain last year? That's 50,000 concertos no one will play, books that won't get reprinted, art that no one will ever see.) But Thomas Jefferson wrote that goverment MUST do for the people what they cannot do for themselves.

And one of the things we cannot do for ourselves is buy health insurance, because it's so ridiculaously expensive, in some cases as much as a mortgage payment! And employers STOPPED offering health care in order to save money, So the goverment MUST do for the people what it cannot do for itself.

If you agree with me, stop the name-calling, the accusations, the anger, and sit down and TALK with the other side, intelligently, reasonably, and try to see where the other side is coming from .

If you disagree with me, do teh same thing. Because if we stopped all the blaming and name-calling and finger-pointing, the lies and the misinformation, we might actually get something done.

I took my son to see Green Day in Fairfax, VA yesterday. 8 hour drive there, 8 hours back, but it was worth it. Delivered a Moog Minitaur to the band's keyboard tech, got the backstage tour, front row side stage seats, backstage passes and invitations to the aftershow. I had as much fun as he did. And he got introduced to some of the greats, like Fugazi and the Runaways along the way. A good time was had by all.

Saw The Last Exorcism Part Two tonight.Warning: Spoiler Alert. If you were going to see this movie, it doesn't feel anything like the first movie, but there are worse ways to spend the cost of a movie ticket.

The first one was a really well done supernatural horror movie about a girl posessed by a demon. This second part is a passable, somewhat entertaining story of a girl who appears to be haunted by mischeivous ghosts and hallucinations, which in the last twenty minutes suddenly develops an existential crisis and somehow ends with a demon posessed girl doing a bad imitation of Ally McBeal driving away while everything she drives past bursts into flame, and listening to a new and improved version of bad 1980s hair bands, which more than anything else in the scene suggested that perhaps the end of the world had begun. But that end left me shivering more with the effort of hiding my amusement than in any kind of fear or apprehension. And this movie did answer the biggest question the first one left me with: Why is it called The Last Exorcism?
