The legendary Blues Highway 61 runs right through the heart and soul of Vicksburg, which was the destination for my next road trip to Mississippi. One could argue that Highway 61 rivals that of Route 66, if not for its historical importance, certainly for the musical significance. Continue reading...

I have been a professional road trip travel blogger for six years now and have had the opportunity to road trip in countries around the world. As an American, the U.S. of course is where I have spent the bulk of my time exploring. I have traversed the entire nation. Well, all but the Last Frontier of Alaska. Needless to say, I have become an authority on U.S. road trips. Here are some fantastic road trip ideas...

While Tubac and the Golf Resort gained some notoriety from the movie “Tin Cup,” it by no means was defined by it. The quality accommodations, dining and amenities at the Tubac Golf Resort, combined with the history, art, culture and community of Tubac make the area an appealing draw for visitors. Tubac often receives national media recognition, which continues to fuel interest in the area. Condé Nast recently said that Tubac is one of 14 up-and-coming destinations—given my experience; it’s hard to disagree.

The lobby and the accommodations are best described as contemporary Asian modern, with rich and luxurious accents throughout. The location is pretty good too, within walking distance of the famed West Lake, which attracts millions of visitors each year. As a matter of fact, many of the rooms have balcony views of the lake, including mine. And, the view from the rooftop deck and garden, are spectacular!

An amazing hideaway from the city rush of Prague is the picturesque central Bohemian village of Mcely. Resting upon a bluff overlooking Mcely is the five-star Chateau Mcely hotel, owned by James and Inez Cusumano. The Chateau is a perfect destination for romantic getaways, a spa break, weddings and also very welcoming to families with children. The hotel’s interior is impeccably furnished in “modern château” style, with each of its 23 rooms individually and uniquely decorated.

Few dining experiences are better than taking in the views of a setting sun over the Pacific Ocean within the temperate climate of Southern California. In San Diego’s La Jolla Cove there is local culinary institution that has been serving California cuisine to visitors and locals alike for more than thirty years, George’s at the Cove. The views from this iconic restaurant are undeniably spectacular.

The Mission Restaurant takes diners on an extraordinary culinary pilgrimage—starting with the main dining area which is decorated in rich earth tones, supple leathers and large candelabras hanging from the exposed duct-work ceiling. A back-lit Himalayan salt wall sets the stage for Peruvian accented Latin fare that introduces the palate to a complex and bold piquancy. The pilgrimage is highly pleasurable, no penance paid.

The Aria is ensconced within a musical theme that is carried through every aspect of the property. Each floor of the hotel is themed in a different genre of music (jazz, opera, classical and contemporary), with each of its 51 lavish rooms and suites highlighting a different artist within the floors’ musical style. Guests will find artwork adorning the walls, books, symbolic references and other odes to musicians and composers such as: Smetana, Dvorák, Elvis Presley, Gershwin, Beethoven, to Billie Holiday and Mozart…the suite we stayed in.

Toro’s cuisine is a fusion of Latin and Asian influences that takes the gourmand on a fantastic culinary journey to Peru. The décor mirrors this theme with a Ceviche/Sushi/Rum bar that spans the length of the restaurant. Clean, modern-looking Asian lines and service settings highlight the sophistication of the bar area.
