Founded in 1605, the town of Annapolis Royal (originally known as Port Royal) is the oldest continuously European settlement north of St. Augustine, Florida. Throughout its long lifetime it has faced thirteen major attacks by opposing European nations, more than any other settlement!

Though Annapolis Royal is just a small town by most people's standards today, it was the capital of Acadia (and later Nova Scotia), until Halifax was founded in 1749.

For more info on Annapolis Royal's rich history, its downtown street-side lighthouse, and many more of Nova Scotia's lighthouses be sure to check out: http://goo.gl/uGMwT
