I saw that the coupon-printing machine at the local grocery store was running Fedora 11 yesterday. I tried taking a picture but it didn't photograph well.

+Columbia, SC has received over 6 inches of rain this month. Here's a view of the river walk under the Gervais Street bridge. Usually you can see plenty of exposed rocks in the river bed.

The Tower of Babel is frequently used as a symbol of foreign languages. For example, several language software packages are named after it, such as the Babylon electronic dictionary, MediaWiki's Ba...

This is what Clem meant when he said that Cinnamon was going to be using less of the GNOME backend in their next release.

I can understand forking gnome-settings-daemon as they've already forked gnome-control-center and they want to control their infrastructure and incorporate new features on their timetable. I can't understand why forking gnome-session makes sense for them and it sounds like it will make it harder for those packaging Cinnamon on other distros.

On the other hand, apparently Unity 8 won't need gnome-session.
If you follow the development of Cinnamon at all, you'll notice there are a couple new related packages now, and yesterday we merged in changes to Cinnamon to utilize these new packages. They are: cinnamon-settings-daemon: This program runs in the background and handles a lot of ...

"One last thing, can you make the African drum beat login theme from back in the Ubuntu 8 and 9 days one of the ring tones. Having that randomly get reset to maximum volume would be really nostalgic."

+Terrance Smith He has quite a résumé, with  leading Microsoft Office for years and a manager for Windows 7. He may even return to be Microsoft CEO in a few years.

Here's one (somewhat-over-hyped) look at who he is: http://www.businessinsider.com/steven-sinofsky-profile-2012-11?op=1

Yay for ditching the unclear Ubuntu SSO branding! I can mark http://pad.lv/839194 fixed now.
For a long time now, we've been seeing issues come up in user testing with the fact that we have different services providing different functionalities which are all connected. Three examples are Ubuntu Single Sign On (used to log into most services related to Ubuntu), Ubuntu One (the cloud ...

#SoundsLikeUnity

"In Windows 8.1, the Search charm will provide global search results powered by Bing in a rich, simple-to-read, aggregated view of many content sources (the web, apps, files, SkyDrive, actions you can take) to provide the best “answer” for your query. We think this will really change the way you interact with the Web and with windows making it quicker and easier to get things done. It is the modern version of the command line!

Quick actions include things you would want to do like play a song or video. Results from local files, apps, and settings are easily accessed in the same convenient view by scrolling to the left."
Before we launched Windows 7, we envisioned what the next version of Windows would need to deliver. We made a bet that the PC landscape and industry would undergo a significant transformation driven by an increase in mobility. That bet underscores the changes we made with Windows 8 – it's a ...
