Did you know that incorrect breathing can cause you to feel tired and fatigued, keep you from being able to get restful sleep, cause you to feel anxious and moody and even contribute to an inability to lose weight?
As someone who has had profound spiritual and emotional experiences using various forms of breath work, I am keenly aware of the power and importance of the breath. However, I had a big blind spot about the right way to breathe when exercising, as well as some nagging curiosity around why certain breathing techniques are taught in yoga classes.
I feel blessed to have connected with a true breath guru, Lisa Engles , and I am excited to let you know about my upcoming interview with her where we will be exploring these important topics together and answering questions like,
"Should I use ujjayi breathing throughout my day or while doing a cardio work out??"
Lisa has trained a number of famous triathletes and has developed a rather unique understanding of 1) the link between our breathing and our physical and emotional health and 2) the role that breathing plays in achieving peak physical performance and peak psychological states such as "the runner's high" and other flow experiences.
She has recently written a book entitled Breathe Run Breath, which is all about breath and a practice she calls Pranayama Running. I have learned a great deal from reading her book already, and I can't wait to interview her later this week.
I hope many of you will join us this Wednesday at 11 AM Pacific/2PM Eastern for a live google hangout, which will also include some time for Q&A.
I look forward to seeing you there!
