Great analysis +Fred Destin
By now you've probably read Greg Smith OpEd at the NY Times on why he left Goldman Sachs. At first I read it and I thought "good, someone is daring to bring ethics into the discussion". ...

Here is why S&P downgraded the US credit rating.

• U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
• Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
• New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
• National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
• Recent budget cut: $ 38,500,000,000

Now let’s remove 8 zeros and pretend it’s a household budget.

• Annual family income: $21,700
• Money the family spent: $38,200
• New debt on the credit card: $16,500
• Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
• Total budget cuts: $385

In the tablets wars, this one will be the winner.
On NBC's "The Office," Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch tries to sell a new, triangle-shaped tablet called the Pyramid. Unlike the PlayBook and TouchPad, this tablet was meant to be a joke.

Quite insane! Computing is going personal, and finger-driven.
Fascinating that the iPad has a trajectory equal to the iPhone, a device that has been offered since 2007. This is the upside of making the iPad what the critics called it when it was introduced “just...

Most definitely.
Bill Gross originally shared:

Strategy is not what you do, it's what you decide NOT to do.

I had the privilege of hearing a brilliant talk by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings the other day, and he spoke eloquently about the success that comes when a business makes the difficult choices to say NO to things that are off the focus/core of the company. I know first-hand how hard that is to do, but how value-creating it can be.

The temptation as an entrepreneur is to try to "cover all the bases," to "have more options," and to try to "improve your odds of success" by having more chances. But I do believe, as Reed suggests, that this is false. It's so painful to prune promising choices, but I do believe that the pruning actually DOES improve your odds of success.

Have you had any experiences that either support or disprove this thesis?
