I am still in awe to have walked in the footsteps of the 3rd president of the United States. The house is an architectural masterpiece and the grounds and vistas are breathtakenly beautiful. Moreover, to see the intricacies of his life and relationships first hand was a life altering experience. The only thing disappointing was that there were no costumed interpreters on hand. I was also hoping for a few good ghost stories but alas, no spirits appear to be active. Perhaps we should have gone back at night. I will definitely go back as much as I can. The caretakers and docent in the garden were exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. A wonderful, magnificent experience!

We had a wonderful day ! We did the Behind The Scenes tour and it was well worth it. The tour lasted approximately one hour and forty minutes. The tour guide was very well informed and welcomed questions .

Excellent family - friendly tour with the kids. Don't miss the Griffin Discovery area where loads of hands - on activities awaits the younger ones. They can lie in Jefferson's bed, use his polygraph and even design their own mansion!

What an opportunity to relive our history. I'd highly recommend making the time to visit. Just down the street is the Michie Tavern - great place for lunch!!!!!!!!!!!

Exceeded our expectations and more. What great insight into the life and mind of one if not the greatest of our forefathers. I must make sure to take more money with me for the gift shop-best gift shop I have ever visited.

I was in Charlottesville in January on business and a colleague and I had some free time, so we went to Monticello. Being the dead of winter, it was right at freezing outside, so we rather had the place to ourselves. The ticketing, gift shop, and museum area at the base of the mountain were all very nice. There was a short bus ride to the house. Since there were only a handful of people there, we were able to snap some great photos of the outside of the house with nobody else in the shot. Once in the house, we had about 5 others in our tour group. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and the guide was insightful and knowledgeable. After the house tour, we spent about an hour exploring the rest of the structure. It was cold out, but there was no wind and the sun was shining, so we decided to walk back down the mountain past the cemetery. It was very interesting to see that the cemetery has modern day descendants of Jefferson buried there. As we left the small parking lot, we noticed that there were additional lots that could clearly park hundreds of cars. I can't imagine how crowded this place must get in the summer. If given the opportunity, visit this place in the off season - it will really enhance your experience.

I've been to Monticello many times in my last but our last visit was special - I went for the private tour. It was superb - we were a group of four and our doyen was perfect for our group - she was so informed and funny to boot - I highly recommend touring Monticello, it's a great day that teaches about our third president but if you can do the private tour - it ROCKS!

Monticello hasn't shared anything with you.

People are more likely to share with you if you add them to your circles.
