Exceeded our expectations and more. What great insight into the life and mind of one if not the greatest of our forefathers. I must make sure to take more money with me for the gift shop-best gift shop I have ever visited.

What an opportunity to relive our history. I'd highly recommend making the time to visit. Just down the street is the Michie Tavern - great place for lunch!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in Charlottesville in January on business and a colleague and I had some free time, so we went to Monticello. Being the dead of winter, it was right at freezing outside, so we rather had the place to ourselves. The ticketing, gift shop, and museum area at the base of the mountain were all very nice. There was a short bus ride to the house. Since there were only a handful of people there, we were able to snap some great photos of the outside of the house with nobody else in the shot. Once in the house, we had about 5 others in our tour group. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and the guide was insightful and knowledgeable. After the house tour, we spent about an hour exploring the rest of the structure. It was cold out, but there was no wind and the sun was shining, so we decided to walk back down the mountain past the cemetery. It was very interesting to see that the cemetery has modern day descendants of Jefferson buried there. As we left the small parking lot, we noticed that there were additional lots that could clearly park hundreds of cars. I can't imagine how crowded this place must get in the summer. If given the opportunity, visit this place in the off season - it will really enhance your experience.

I've been to Monticello many times in my last but our last visit was special - I went for the private tour. It was superb - we were a group of four and our doyen was perfect for our group - she was so informed and funny to boot - I highly recommend touring Monticello, it's a great day that teaches about our third president but if you can do the private tour - it ROCKS!

Took the last "behind the scenes" tour of the day, which was to our advantage, since our tour guide gave us an extra 15 mins. of knowledge of the property. Fall colors were beautiful from the top of the mountain. Lots to pick from at the Souvenir shop. Unfortunately, didn't get a chance to eat at the Michie Tavern since they close at 5 p.m. You think they'd take advantage of people leaving at the end of the day, would want to stop their for dinner.

Monticello hasn't shared anything with you.

People are more likely to share with you if you add them to your circles.
