At Bottoms Nursery we sell over 20 varieties of blueberry bushes. They are either varieties of Rabbiteye or Southern Highbush blueberries.

What is the difference between the two groups and which one should you grow in your area?

Rabbiteye varieties grow throughout most of the Southeastern states. Southern Highbush varieties require fewer chilling hours and produce berries a little earlier, growing better in the more southern regions.

Rabbiteye Blueberries:
GA, AL, MS- all of state
SC, NC, TN- most of state except for mountain elevations
FL- north of Ocala, FL

Southern Highbush Blueberries:
GA, AL, MS- central and south part of state
SC- central and coastal plains
NC- Coastal plains
FL- South of Ocala and north of Sebring, FL.
TN- not recommended

Did you know that peaches are native to China? I guess that's why China is the #1 producer of peaches in the world. California produces over 50% of the peaches grown in the US, followed by South Carolina.
