We visited the shopping outlets in Reading, PA recently and tried Buca di Beppo while we were in the area. The restaurant looked like a fun place to take the family and the staff was very friendly. If you are from the New York metropolitan area and are used to authentic Italian food I am afraid that you won't find it here. What you will find is a lot of overpriced meals that aren't what you would be used to back home. Everything we tried seemed to be overloaded with garlic. We ordered shrimp fra diavolo and had a hard time finding any shrimp in the pasta (apparently the only pasta they have heard of in this restaurant is ziti). The place we normally go to back home uses large shrimp that is fresh not these which were more like baby shrimp that were translucent. Our daughter ordered penne vodka and it was nothing special. The gravy tasted like it came out of a jar (certainly not home made). If you plan to have a bottle of wine be prepared to spend about four times as much as you would if you bought it yourself and brought it to a BYOB restaurant at home. We will stick with what we know from now on. If you are ever in Metuchen, NJ try Joey D's on Central Avenue. It is a small family owned pizzeria. The food is excellent. It is a much better value and you can bring your own wine.

We gave this place several tries when it first opened, and again recently when they were handing out $20 off coupons like candy. The food is ok, the standard Italian menu, but everything around that is pretty unpredictable. We've ordered pizza and had them burn it twice. We've been seated and then never waited on to the point where we had to go find the hostess again. But other times it's been perfectly acceptable. It's tragically overpriced without a coupon.

Food is excellent, serving sizes are huge! This is a family style place. I do suggest the kitchen table, it is really cool to be able to eat in the kitchen and see what goes on in there. The staff is extremely friendly! I highly suggest, the only issue is it can be expensive.

The marketing scam here is to brainwash you into believing that the price, per plate, is high because the portion is for two people. I paid $21 for a soda and a plate of chicken cannelloni, which had no chicken in it. It was nothing but a heated up frozen dinner. I don't think Lidya would have thought it was authentic nor have fell for the pricing scam. The soda was $2.75. I started not to tip, but I'm a nice guy, unlike the corporate snobs who built this place. Maybe it's a function of inflation, but I won't be back, nevertheless. Just another chain ripoff, and the only way to get value is to find a small proprietor owned restaurant.

This is the best restaurant my wife and I have found in the Reading area since we moved here four months ago. The atmosphere was nice and staff was warm and friendly. This is family style dining with large portions for everyone. The food was wonderful. We will be back.
