North American T-28 Trojan

The North American T-28 Trojan used during the Vietnam War is a piston-engine military trainer aircraft manufactured by North American Aviation. The T-28 Trojan was mainly used as a counter-insurgency aircraft and used by the CIA in the former Belgian Congo during the 1960s. After its service to the U.S military many T-28 Trojan were sold to private civil operators and due to its reasonable operating costs they are often found flying as warbirds today. The maiden flight of the T-28 Trojan took place on the 24th of September 1949. Primary users were the United States Air Force, United States Navy, South Vietnamese Air Force and the French Air Force. There were approx. 1,948 T-28 Trojan produced between 1950 and 1957. The T-28 Trojan retired from active service in 1994 to the Philippine Air Force. Cost per unit was approx. 123,000 USD.
