This is quite relevant, as yesterday was Jerusalem Day. The song Jerusalem of Gold / Yerushalayim shel Zahav was first performed in the leadup to the Six-Day War, expressing the longing to return to an undivided city. It quickly caught on and became almost the anthem of the war for the Israeli side:

A good word to know, mostly for Modern Hebrew though.

How to say "butter" in Hebrew.

How to say "butter" in Hebrew.

Though much more commonly found in Modern Hebrew and translated as "butter", this word is occasionally found in Biblical Hebrew as well. For example Bereisheet (Gen.) 18:8. But there it is often translated as "curds" and not as butter. Probably since butter was not common in the warmer climate in the Land of Israel in the days before refrigeration.

This Modern Hebrew word goes all the way back to Bereisheet (Gen.) 1:11! If you know Biblical Hebrew you also know most of Modern Hebrew as well.

How to say "gloves" in Hebrew:

This word is clearly related to "kaf yad" (a hand) and "l'hitkofef" to bend over. Compare that to the word "glove". Where does that come from?? See how logical Hebrew is? :-)

A good word to know, but the root of the word relating to round or circular things is even more important.
How to say "Earring" in Hebrew.

This Modern Hebrew word is actually from Biblical Hebrew. Though it is apparently only rarely used in the Tanach, you can see it in Bamidbar (Num.) 31:50. The root is related to עגול which means round or circular.

How to say "house" or "home" in Hebrew.

A great word for both Biblical and Modern Hebrew. And easy to remember since it sounds like the letter "bet", which sortof looks like a house with the door open on the left.
