Hello!  I am so excited to find this community.  I'm building #131, just about ready to start painting the interior.  To those who are beginning, I salute you!

Thanks, Mark.  I wish he was here to see it.  It's been good therapy though, dredges up some stuff that I would have sworn to have been over.  Quote that keeps bouncing around in my skull:

"A man builds the best of himself into a boat- builds many of the memories of his ancestors." Steinbeck

Thanks, Lori!  The last plank will be attached sometime this weekend, then I can start painting the interior.  :D

Garden folks!  If you find any Lower Salmon River Squash seeds, please, please, please let me know!  I'm having a hell of a time trying to find them.

Found some!  Let me know if you want any- it'd be fun to get this rare variety a bit more exposure.

Day 3 of 3D construction on my SCAMP sailboat.  Lots of fiddly things to mess with, but at least now we have a bow!

Not bad, humans.  Not bad at all!

It'll be neat to see what comes of this.  Makes me feel like a complete dork from being nervous to fly when humans can basically trebuchet a jeep onto Mars with complete success.

12 hour day on the boat building front.  3 bulkheads have been epoxied, 14lbs of lead has been positioned into the centerboard, and I glued up the biggest scarf joint needed in my build- the hull bottom.  Spending tomorrow at the NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding to meet the guy who designed my mini ship.  Wish me luck!

Only for a meet and greet.  I'll be going back next weekend to hopefully meet up the other builders, and perhaps beg them to take me out on the water. :) Welford was wonderful to meet, found out he'll be here next year at this time for another SCAMP camp, and hopefully I'll be able to launch Rio with the designer present.  Fingers crossed!

Rio the Scamp now has all of her planks and has been moved to a lower jig. Next step is to finish and paint the interior compartments, then the seats, cockpit sole and the deck can be installed. Looking at a probable August launch date.

Thanks, Lori!  August is lovely, I'd love to spend a few days of it on the water.  Really hoping I can pull it off. :)

I'm way, waaaaay behind on my SCAMP build album, but there's been a lot of progress. The garboard planks went up this evening!  This is a 'stitch-and-glue' boat, so the planks are essentially wired in place until they're epoxied on permanently.   Ran out of daylight, so the glue part will have to happen in the morning.

$713,555!  And 41 days left.   Let's hope the fundraising continues to carry forward. Wouldn't it be great if they had enough to buy the land AND put a museum on it?

Hah, this is amazing.  +Bev Beam, thought you'd especially enjoy this.

This is kind of a big deal.

Tonight at JPL, I saw water on Mars.

I cut out the first boat-shaped thing on this SCAMP build thus far- the hull bottom!  It's just over 11' long.  My scarf joint (where the two pieces of plywood are glued together) turned out quite well.

Boatbuilding Housewife.
Introduction
My life has a superb cast but I can't figure out the plot.
 -Ashleigh Brilliant

Dedicated housewife with a shameless love of learning. Last year we renovated a 1952 foreclosed cinder block house, and this year, I'm building my first sailboat.

If you like dinosaurs, all varieties of tea, old Volkswagons, lomography photography, alternative living spaces, wooden sailboats and/or belgian beer, chances are we'll get along.

Also newly obsessed with urban farming, square foot gardening, heirloom vegetables, and Salmon Faverolles chickens.
