The DSM-V committee through the American Psychiatric Association, has suddenly and without a real explanation, changed their mind regarding the diagnostic criteria for Autism. Many at the higher end of the spectrum (people with Aspergers or PDD-NOS) may not qualify for services and funding. Many children will be denied special education and other services. And a large number of adults risk losing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other services as well.

It is imperative that you Call the American Psychiatric Association, at 703.907.7300 and give them your opinion!!!
Changes to the way autism is diagnosed may make it harder for many people who would no longer meet the criteria to get health, educational and social services, researchers say.
