Ugh…those pesky carbs. It seems like we’re always trying to figure out what is a healthy amount to aim for without actually overdoing it. Luckily, renowned doctor of natural medicine Dr. Josh Axe recently took to YouTube to share what he believes is the right balance of carbohydrates in a person’s diet. While the answer ultimately depends on your health goals and your body type (watch the clip to learn more), for most relatively active people, the number of carbs consumed should be a percentage of the overall daily calorie intake. And if you’re looking for ways to cut back on your carb intake, try switching out some of your favorite foods, such as replacing mashed potatoes with Hanover mashed cauliflower. That way you’ll stay within the healthy range without having to sacrifice taste. #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy

One pot pasta for #MeatlessMonday? Yes please! Not only is this recipe super easy to make, but it only takes 20 minutes (though it’ll taste like you slaved over it for hours). To prepare, place a Dutch oven or large stock pot over medium to high heat. Inside, combine a pound of uncooked spaghetti, a pound of sliced mushrooms, one package of Hanover Foods zucchini and squash blend, 2/3 cup of peas, 2 cloves of garlic (sliced), a couple sprigs of thyme and 4 ½ cups of water. Bring pot to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes. Stir in 1/3 cup grated parmesan and ¼ cup of milk. Heat through and serve. Yum! #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy

Peas may be tiny, but they’re packed with health benefits in every bite. In fact, just one serving of peas contains as much as Vitamin C as two large apples, more fiber than a slice of whole meal bread and more thiamine than an entire pint of whole meal. They’re also a great source of phosphorus, folate, protein, iron and vitamins K and B1. Don’t like your peas straight up? Add them into stews or soups, toss them with pasta, stir them into mashed potatoes or cauliflower – the possibilities are endless! #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy #vegetablefunfacts

Per calorie, kale contains more protein than beef, more calcium than milk and – surprisingly – even more vitamin C than spinach. The vitamins and nutrients it contains are great for healthy eyes, skin and bones. Kale is also low in calories, fat and carbs, making it a super healthy option as a side dish or to liven up otherwise boring dishes, like mac and cheese, scrambled eggs, soup or pasta. #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy #vegetablefunfacts

Looking for a tasty treat that’s as good for your body as it is easy on your waist size? Zucchini is naturally fat-free, low-calorie and cholesterol-free. That’s because they’re made up of 95% water. They’re also low in sodium, rich in manganese and vitamin C and contain more potassium than a banana. #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy #vegetablefunfacts

Some experts consider edamame to be the super or wonder vegetable. This is because it is the only veggie that naturally contains all nine essential amino acids, making it source of complete protein, similar to eggs or meat. Edamame also contains what are known as isoflavonoids, which are found in all soy products and have been shown in research to have certain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. Enjoy them shelled or steamed in the pod. Delish and so incredibly good for you! #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy #vegetablefunfacts

Brussells sprouts may not be on everyone’s list of favorite vegetables, but Linus Urbanec of Sweden isn’t one of them. He holds the Guinness World Record for most Brussels sprouts eaten in one minute – 31! Thankfully you don’t need nearly that many to benefit from the vitamins A and C, folic acid, iron and dietary fiber they contain. #organic #hanoverhappy #hanoverhealthy
