This is what we have come to, America. What started as a Harvest Festival, brought over from European traditions, and unified as a national holiday by FDR, has degenerated into consumerism at its worst. Forgotten are the origins, instead, replaced by frenzy. Once a celebration of the bounty of Mother Earth and family appreciation, Thanksgiving is now the carbo-loading before the marathon.
Maybe this is the American Indian's ultimate revenge on the white man.
