A bad sign of the times, but probably an indication that we can expect more of this sort of thing in the months to come.

A lovely brio-filled piece by Professor Gary Slapper encouraging the young'uns to think about studying law. What has always amazed me is that there are so many law lecturers out there who can make an intrinsically important and interesting subject so dull. Advice to prospective students -- read the prospectus for your shortlisted unis very, very carefully and decide whether you want "black letter law" or something with a more critical approach. "Black letter law" is always said to be very practical and better at getting you a job -- I don't know about that to be honest. I found it quite restrictive being asked to  learn the rules without getting some understanding of why the rules were there. Good luck to you anyway -- maybe I'll see you in court one day!

What an interesting development. I suspect that the appeal is doomed, but I'll keep an eye on it.
