Anxiety affects nearly 40 million adults in this country. The accepted mainstream method of dealing with anxiety is conventional medication. There may be a better way – a more natural way – of addressing anxiety in patients of all ages. A study appearing in Evidence Based Acupuncture found that acupuncture could provide people with relief from their symptoms of anxiety. http://ow.ly/4wFZ30kEAXG

More than one million people in this country suffer from Parkinson’s disease. It strikes 50 percent more men than women, with an average age of onset of 60 years old. PD is a chronic and progressive neurodegenerative disease that has no cure currently. Many patients take medication to suppress symptoms, such as involuntary shaking. However, more and more people are seeking complementary therapies to relieve their symptoms. http://ow.ly/pNj230kEANZ

The American Medical Association (AMA) and other top medical organizations are leading the charge for insurance companies to change their practices. The country’s growing crisis with pain treatment and the drastic need to cut way back on opioid dependence has spurred these calls to action. In order to change this, public and private payer policies must face fundamental changes in order to support the recommendation. Organizations such as the American Pain Society (APS) say that patients should be equally reimbursed for both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to effectively manage their chronic pain. http://ow.ly/aAIs30jSi5M

Acupuncture is nothing new. It’s been around for 3,000 years as a healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine. But in 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) finally recognized acupuncture’s safety and effectiveness in the treatment of many conditions. It’s even now covered by many insurance policies and is a widely accepted way to alleviate pain. http://ow.ly/W1gQ30jooN8

Groundbreaking research shows that the act of inserting an acupuncture needle into the skin disrupts the C fibers, which refers to the branching point of nerves. They are responsible for transmitting low-grade sensory information over long distances through the use of Merkel cells as conduits. In the absence of scientific explanations for the way acupuncture really works, this breakthrough will actually provide a way to explain the process scientifically. http://ow.ly/8TCs30jooBB

About 50 million people in the United States have allergies, affecting as many as 30 percent of adults and 40 percent of children, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Seasonal allergies in particular can be very frustrating to live with because they often require dependence on a daily medication to keep attacks at bay. What if there was a better option? There is. http://ow.ly/VJwf30jbwlf

Called hot flashes here in America and hot flushes in the UK, these annoying side effects of menopause have long since been the thorn in the sides of older women. A recent study found that acupuncture may cure hot flashes, or at least reduce them significantly — in many cases, halving the frequency of menopausal side effects. http://ow.ly/aEfC30jbwbh

A recent study has shown that acupuncture can elevate your chances of getting pregnant when going through IVF, or in vitro fertilization. This was attributed to the increased blood flow to the uterus, making it more receptive to embryo implantation when transferred. http://ow.ly/Jq8030iE6yd
