This popular Mexican restaurant in HK is a cozy friendly restaurant. The table spacing isn’t so cramp that you are right next to your neighbor. The food and drinks here are always pretty good and solid. The service is fairly good and consistent. I certainly enjoy the drinks here and the margaritas aren’t sugary sweet like some other place. The dishes that I’ve ordered are on point. Well, seasoned and portions are about right. I tried that lamb shank and my friend had the chicken kabob looking plate on one night we dined. The lamb was tender, came with rice and black beans. It could probably use a bit more seasoning but overall it was very good. Compared to other Mexican restaurant in the area, El Centro is a standout.

El centro is one of the best Mexican Restaurant in New York City. They are especially good in preparing steaks -- they marinate the meat and cook it to perfection. They Chilaquile Steak is marvelous - and so are various other items of the brunch menu (including their pancakes - they come with delicious and non banale sauces and dips). The decor is down to earth, but it creates a great atmosphere: shiny hearts, skulls, and other Mexican symbols are everywhere and you'll sit at a glass table with beer caps under the glass panel! The service is quick and reliable, and the staff is very nice and friendly. And if you are in a mood for a cocktail, don't worry: they margaritas are excellent! Only thing I wasn't too excited about was the Mole: it tasted a bit too bland.

Fabio, I'm really appreciative of this review. It means a lot to me that you've found some dishes from the menu you love, like the Steak and brunch pancakes -- not to mention a good margarita to wash it all down. I'll look into that Mole for you, because it shouldn't be bland, but I'm glad you let me know. Your feedback means the world, and I can't wait for another visit from you soon. - Don

Surprisingly delicious. Micheladas are top notch, tortilla soup hits the spot, and tacos are flavorful. Sidewalk seating is a boon; indoor seating can be quite packed. Service is friendly and accommodating.

Gracias, Meg! I'm happy you've enjoyed some tortilla soup on outdoors in this beautiful New York weather. Thanks for the kind words -- see you again soon! - Don

Really good food! Reasonable prices and they don't skimp on the alcohol when you order drinks! (You know... like some other cheapo places that really water down your drinks with LOTS of ice and juice instead of what you actually want in it!)
Response from the owner - a month ago
Sebastian, glad we can make those cocktails just right for ya! Nobody likes a watered down drink, especially us, so we wouldn't want to do it to anyone else. See you again soon for another round. Cheers! - Don

There was a piece of plastic in my food and when I talked to a manager about it, he appeared intoxicated. The situation wasn't handled very well. I was over all disappointed because I've heard good things about this place. Wouldn't go back.
Response from the owner - a month ago
Nevin, I can assure you, none of our staff would ever be inebriated on the job. They are professional and hardworking. Also, a piece of plastic in your food is unacceptable, so I'm glad you brought this to my attention. Know that this isn't our M.O. around here, and I hope to see you again and show you how good our stuff is. Until then, Don

So I just called they are located only 12 blocks aways and refused delivery to my building. They truly do not know what good business is.
Response from the owner - in the last week
Sorry about the miscommunication there, Sace. We're limited to a certain mileage and block-radius, so we apologize about that. You're always welcome to come in and see us, though. It would mean a lot. - Don
