Why IUDs Are So Effective (and 17 Other Facts about IUDs)

One of the reasons why IUDs are so effective is that IUDs completely remove "human error" from the equation. There is no need to remember to take a pill at the same time every day. It's a true "set it and forget it" birth control method.

The best part? There is an IUD for nearly every woman thanks to a wide variety of sizes and hormone (or lack of) compositions.

Pap Smear Results: What Does ASCUS Mean?

One of the most common causes of abnormal Pap results is ASCUS, or atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance. Inflammation (such as from a yeast infection) can trigger this type of response. This is why it is important to follow up with your provider after an abnormal reading - to determine the cause of the abnormal results. Sometimes your provider will simply have you re-test, and in other cases, you may need a colposcopy.
