I never write reviews, but this one made we want to share and warn others. After we sat down, we got some gray home-made bread that was not fully baked. Some plates were a little dirty. The service was very very slow. had to wave over to get attention. Waited for a long long time to get our food... Not good. Used to be great in the late 90s, now it's not..

TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE PLACE! We were seated quite quickly but our waitress took forever to come over our table to introduce herself. She then took off rather quickly without even showing us the drink menu. We had to wait her down 20 minutes later to get our drink menu then 20 minutes later waved her down again to get our drinks ordered and another 10 minutes to receive and finally put in our order. She was extremely rude and when I asked her to please re-fill my small shock glass water cup, she gave me this dirty look like don't tell her what to do. Not only that she never brought out our bread!! we had to remind her! Starving and having patience since it was our anniversary, I begin to get angry when she came back with bread and just dropped it on our table. Like drop it! not slowly placing it on the table but drop it like she was feeding some animals. Not only that but she forgot our utensil. Again we waited for her to come around and asked her politely for one. She immediately came back to our table with one (HOW SURPRISING!) but the fork looked USED! I mean I can tell the difference between a fork that has stain came out fresh from the dish washer but this fork had FOOD and some type of sauce on it! I bet she grabbed it from the dirty pile in the kitchen which explains why she came back to us so rather quickly! OMG worst terrible waitress ever. The food was ehhhh.... not all that great. The one waitress we had gave ZERO F's about her job I can tell you that. I envied the table across from us because their waitress was nice and courtesy and was very responsive. This just a big fail! after 3 hrs!!! we halted her and say we'd like our desserts to go! She was quite fast at bringing back boxes to store our desserts. Of course we had to tip her but at lowest percentages. If it wasn't for my husband's good heart and up to me, she would've gotten NOTHING! Tip: DO NOT BUY THEIR GROUPON! AND STAY AWAY!

So we had a groupon and decided to give Appetitos another try. Well we walked in and there was no host/ess there and no less than 4 waitresses came by and said, someone will be right with you...The manager must have been in the kitchen, as he was for most of the night. We finally got seated in the booth we requested and the waitress was very nice and helpful with recommendations. We ordered a salad, with glazed pears, pecans and blue cheese, we shared it and it was very good. then we got an order of calamari which came with a tiny marinara sauce in a carved tomato, cute but not enough so we asked for more sauce and the waitress gladly brought us some but it was cold. We ordered for dinner the pork chop and the cioppino. The cioppino promised linguine,clams, squid, shrimp, fish and lobster meat. It was tasty but not special and there was no lobster meat. The pork chop promised grilled fennel and there was none. When asked, the waitress said she would check with the kitchen and seemed annoyed. She came back and said that the fennel was "in the sauce" but still no answer on the missing lobster. Brought the bill, had to ask for a water refill. Got up to leave and I told the hubby to say something to the now present manager (I guess it was close to closing). When asked about the lobster he said "oh yeah the waitress should have told you it was a mistake and shouldn't have been on the menu". Isn't that false advertising? Maybe the price should be adjusted as well? Anyway, not in a rush to go back there.

Absolutely miserable experience. If you are considering this place because of the Groupon: be forewarned. Even with the coupon, it is a horrible dining experience. Strange waitstaff, overcooked food with cheap ingredients, etc. Don't waste a night out here as we did.

very bad experience. over the years we have eaten here many times. our last 2 visits were not good and our june visit was a disaster. very poor slow indifferent service. my meal of chicken and pasta was so bad I ate only 2 bites. my wife's meal was at best ok. we will never return. to top it off they charged my credit card $2300. for the meal. after 3 months Citibank has yet to have fully resolved this with the management. I have called 3 times to speak to the manager/owner and he is never there and does not return my calls. I am not the only one with an overcharge to their credit cards. DO NOT BUY THIS GROUPON OR PATRONIZE THIS RESTAURANT PLEASE.

Non-existent service - literally! Shortly after we were seated, our server walked out of the restaurant. This was after quite a wait when we already new the staff was short-handed and frazzled. It was the hostess's first week and she told us how there likely wouldn't be a second one. The food: nobody was available to prepare the usual bread + spread. Specials did not exist. In the end, one server for the whole restaurant was a challenge, to say the least. The manager was mostly absent (perhaps working in the kitchen?) and the empty table next to us wasn't cleared for 45 minutes. Once it was actually served, the food wasn't bad. But the overall experience means I won't be back, even with a Groupon (which makes the cost reasonable, not overpriced).

I have to say I wasn't impressed. I came here after a glowing recommendation from a friend so unsure if our experience was just a fluke. The service was unprofessional, unknowledgeable and the dishes were less than stellar. Our pasta dishes were oily, tasteless risotto and the fish was overcooked. This place could be nice neighborhood italian place but instead comes off kind of cheesy. For this price, I rather trek into Boston for something of higher quality like Sportello for this price. Its a decent option for those looking for something specifically in Newton Centre and I often see them on coupon sites as well.
