I bought a truck and it was a pleasant experience. However, the truck had only one key and I was told to order two more in the back. I was told I could be called when they were ready. A month later, no call. I called the dealership twice. The first time I was left on hold. The second time I was told my salesman would call me. That never happened. I went in to the dealership. My salesman told me to to go the back and tell them that I am the guy waiting for the keys and then he walked away from me. In the back they told me 'they are on order'. I was told again I would be called when they arrived. This is three weeks after the fact and I still havent been called. They were very attentive during the sale but since then this loose end to our transaction has been ignored.

The worst experience ever! Had my car for three days before transmission went out then they gave me the run around for a week. They also let the service manager drive my car home. I totally understand test driving it but no reason to take it home. I will never go thru them again and I will tell everyone I know not to go to them!

Horrific experience. They wouldn't answer our direct questions, wouldn't show us the vehicles we asked to see and kept pressuring us for marketing data, addresses and income figures before we ever got to look at a truck. Every question we asked was responded to with a blank stare, puzzled look and "Let me go ask my manager." We told the sales kid that we had exceptional credit, and our house payments weren't his concern until such a time as we decided to do business. We just wanted direct answers to our direct questions. "Do you have any trucks in this price range? Yes or no." His response was "That's not really how we work. We try and match you with the payments you can afford." Excuse me? Then we had to educate young sales kid on the bed options on a Chevy/GMC truck. He was insistent that a 6' bed is the maximum length you can get. To make a long story short, we went back to Community Chrysler and bought the GMC truck I need with an 8' bed and dealt with the most wonderful, laid back no-pressure sales people in the area.

I have read some of the other reviews and I must say the negative reviews are very difficult to believe. My wife and I have now purchased 3 vehicles from Gates over the past year and each purchase was an amazing experience. I have purchased 10 new cars prior in my life from various other dealers...and I would always dread the process the games that would be played....the back and forth negotiating the high pressure sales...and in most instances plain rudeness from most dealerships - 2 of which are as well in Martinsville. With Gates NOT one single complaint so far....Tommy our salesman is wonderful and a pleasure to deal with, full of personality and polite never once tried to talk us into something we did not want or more than we needed. He provided us with service and was patient during our process of deciding what vehicles we wanted to purchase. The Service department also has been extraordinary after we purchased our first vehicle from them last year we asked if we could bring our non GM vehicle there for service as well and they said of course and each time we came in the same experience polite and friendly service advisers and the prices are very competitive with non dealer service centers. Aaron the now Sales Manager was exceptional in helping us with the financing aspect of our purchases thoroughly explaining everything and intent on getting us the best deal working to put us where we wanted to be within our budget. When we decided to purchase our 2 new vehicles this month we had decided if Gates did not have what we wanted we were not going to buy anything until they did....I have never before been loyal to a dealership always prior it was the car. These Gentlemen have earned our respect and our business I would highly recommend if you are looking for a new vehicle or used that you give this team a chance to help you because that is what they do they help you and they treat you with respect. Good luck in your search for a new vehicle and do not let the negative reviews stop you from going to Gates....if you are a reasonable person and have realistic expectations you will find that purchasing a car does not have to be the nightmare that many of us have encountered.

All I can say is wow. The best way to describe this experience is that I have cash detailed that in my conversations and was told that I needed to be in an office while a sales person ran from one office to another communicating price negotiation. I find that outrageous. I would like to Pay X you want me to pay X and oh by the way the car needs work but we can negotiate that too. WOW just go talk to the manager so I can bring the amount needed with me and instead of thinking I am gonna waste your time start moving forward with a sure sale. Oh ya was told unless I am there they think all buyers are just wasting their time. Can't even believe in how disappointed that is.
