"There's still a lot of underlying sexism. It's oppressive in a social way. For men, too. This is how men treat women, and this is how women are supposed to act. It's an attitude. I like to work with my hands, work on my motorcycle. I went in looking for parts, and the guy at the shop said, 'You better bring it in.' That kind of narrow-mindedness. There's a lot of freedom here, too. You can go off to the wilderness and camp and do whatever."

Banner Summit avalanche is still lingering.
"This is pretty amazing. I saw this avalanche on the news last winter, and it's still here the first of June. Westerners appreciate this: what the natural world is rather than something like Central Park."

-Martin Pierson, Boise, Idaho (Photographed near Banner Summit, Idaho)

This is a side project I've been working on for a few months now. I'm up to 30 or so place-based bios from around the Western U.S. Check it out, and spread the word.
"I'm convinced that the north shore of Kauai is the ideal place to live. I'm indescribably drawn to the natural beauty, people and peacefulness of the island. The energy and genuine aloha resonate. To me, this is heaven on earth. I'm grateful to live in a place that consistently engenders a sense of awe."

This is a few weeks old now, but I thought I'd share my capture from the solar eclipse. Boise Idaho foothills, May 20, 2012.
