Midwifery recognises every woman's right to self-determination in attaining choice. (From linked research paper).

Hell yes. I have been thinking on this of late - the differences in actual practice and reality of midwifery in the hospital system and in independent midwifery eg. Homebirth midwives. How many hospy midwives are able to truly remain woman centred in such an environment?

"This is not to suggest that men are never the victims of domestic violence, or other violent crimes, because of course they are, but the majority of victims are women. Even if the 40% figure is right, if 60% of domestic violence victims are women, then that is a clear and undeniable majority. It seems to me that sharing this meme serves one purpose and one purpose alone. All it does is create a distraction, it takes the focus off women as victims and men as perpetrators. It makes people worry about the safety of men, and gives the impression that “all the effort” we put in to protecting women, is somehow throwing men under the bus."

"Mothers are their own worst critics when it comes to mothering. They love their children so much that they hold themselves to an unattainable standard of perfection. Feeling mother guilt over something that wasn’t in their power is unfair. We need to make it extremely clear to the women who have suffered birth trauma or grief, that IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT if they did not feel overwhelming love when they first set eyes on their babies. It was purely and simply, a lack of natural hormones, caused by medical interventions. It was not the first sign of an inadequate, substandard mother. It is a symptom of modern birth practices – be they necessary or not. "

Do not compose yourself.

Do not be someone else, because to compose yourself means to create something new, to arrange the muted and unmuted parts into a creature made, considered, worked out by a hand quivering above the page.

Be the same old music. Fall over the step without fear - you are good at falling and mostly catch yourself on the way down. Say hello to the dog first, he is the most pleased to see you and it's a mutual love.
