Pretty much what I figured Shel Silverstein's underlying message was in every poem or story he wrote.

This Week In Blockbusters.

If once is innovation (Star Trek Into Darkness), twice is flattery (Thor: The Dark World - pictured), then thrice is trope (Guardians of the Galaxy)

I expect to see skyscraper-sized spaceships crashing into densely populated cities with scarcely any casualties both on and off the ship for years to come now.

Wow - Taste of Chicago sure looks a whole lot different than I remember.   I'll have to dig the snow boots out before heading over.

Memo to person sitting next to me: 'Orange is the new Black' may not be the most suitable viewing material for a large tablet on a crowded train.

Memo to self: the Venture Brothers on a phone however is CTA approved.

Sharon Van Etten possesses a wise and knowing refrigerator.  We'd all do well to follow its advice.

Also she writes remarkable songs.  Van Etten does that is.  The fridge doesn't sing in this piece.

Just once I'd like for research like this to come out and for the offending industry to admit the possibility that they're destroying something that can't be replaced and work with scientists to get to the bottom of the problem.   Horde your almonds because that's not going to happen.

'[...] For its part, the pesticide industry is doing its best to shroud the phenomenon in uncertainty, promoting a "multifactorial" explanation that points the finger at mites, viruses, and "many other factors, but not…the use of insecticides," as neonic producer Bayer puts it in its "Honey Bee Health" pamphlet.'
The environment is full of stuff that harms bees—but a new Harvard study fingers a Bayer pesticide as the main culprit.

Wonderful news! I despise the Olympics. Not the events or the athletes but everything having to do with the wildly corrupt, civic destroying organization that is the Olympics.

Now if every country also rejects FIFA we might be getting somewhere.

Nobody wants to host 2022 Olympics. Only bids remaining are Almaty, Kazakhstan and Beijing. http://boingboing.net/2014/10/02/nobody-wants-to-host-to-2022-o.html

For the true leisure cyclist: Behold! A coffee cup holder on a Huffy Cruiser.

I'm quite curious to see this in action, preferably with a piping hot cup of Starbucks over a potholed road.

A gentler (and stranger) form of humor from a gentler (and stranger) age.

When Katherine Crosby says "C'mon children" I half expected a group of youngsters dressed and acting exactly like Bing to walk through  like Chris Elliot's old Letterman skit featuring the Marv Albert family.

The now-ubiquitous Summer Music Festival lineups are the Eye Chart equivalent for measuring your hipster music vision.

I can only make it to the eleventh line before losing musical clarity

Another Sunday, another NYT op-ed from an Ivy League banker failing to observe that an industry paying 6 figures to a 23 year old new grad is an industry that is obscenely overrepresented in our economy for the product they provide (which in the case of modern day banking is frequently community, village, state, country, and/or world-destroying).  It was not always so.
My job helped me develop skills that have served me well outside finance.

Godzilla director claims inspiration from the terrifying Skeksis (of Dark Crystal infamy) for his take on the famed kaiju.

Gareth Edwards - you sir have all but guaranteed at least 1 ticket sale (and hopefully multitudes more) for your movie by virtue of this revelation.

They could have gotten a better design from the Godzilla comic book artist I'm following on deviantart. Seriously, he mixed the mid new millennium Godzilla with the finer point, and only more accurate idea, from Zilla (the thicker, spiked chin) the result is an amazing design. This one is...okay, but the tiny toes don't quite match the rest of him
