So, I just discovered Splashtop 2 HD, a remote desktop access app that has been getting rave reviews. In my very brief evaluation thus far, the app far surpasses any of the competitive apps I've seen.

Even more exciting though is the interactive whiteboard app described below. This video specifically highlights the Android version, though an iPad version was created first. While Splashtop 2 is free, the whiteboard app does carry a nominal cost. That said, it can currently be purchased for Android at 1/2 off the regular price of $19.99. (Sorry iPad users, you'll have to pay full retail, but you're already used to paying more for everything anyway, right?)

Here's what I love about this interactive whiteboard app:
1. It's very inexpensive to purchase
2. It appears (full disclosure: I haven't used it) to be more intuitive and easier to use than competitive products.
3. For teachers who otherwise have no access to whiteboard technology, this is a cost effective solution that is reasonable to implement even at personal expense (and you could probably get your PTA to fund the purchase for you--assuming you already own or have access to a tablet).
4. No other hardware or software required; although usefulness would be enhanced with the ability to project. The InFocus projector for example costs only about $450, substantially less than the typical cost to implement a SMART Board. According to the "Technology Integration in K12 Education/SmartBoards vs White Boards in the Elementary Classroom" wiki on en.wikibooks.org, "...the typical cost of a SMART Board can cost anywhere between $3,000 and $6,000"! For just over 1/10th of that expense, the Whiteboard for Android could be implemented (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Technology_Integration_In_K12_Education/SmartBoards_vs_White_Boards_in_the_Elementary_Classroom#Advantages_.26_Disadvantages.
