When reviewing their photos right after a shoot my clients often remark how amazing it is that seemly subtle changes can really make or break an image. A new study in Psychological Science seems to confirm what we already intuitively know. #profilephotos #headshots
Subtle aspects of your photo could greatly affect how people view you.

I'm actually pretty excited about this new Lytro camera...it has some seriously interesting implications for lens design and macro photography. Not to mention the day when 'pulling focus' on video becomes something you can do in post...

"Okay, can I take it out of the box now?" Lytro product director Colvin Pitts wants to show me the camera he’s been working on since 2007. He cautions that it’s just an early model,...

It's finally here!
In 2013, Adobe’s Tom Hogarty teased an iOS app that could edit raw-formatted photos on an iPad. Nearly a year later, that proof of concept has matured into Lightroom mobile 1.0, an iOS extension of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 that both syncs your images and offers many of the editing features found in the desktop version. The basics If you have an iPad 2 or later running iOS 7 or later, you can run Lightroom mobile. (According to Adobe, an iPho...

+Adobe Photoshop CC previews their new feature focus masking. masking the subject is something I already do on almost every headshot image to subtly tweak the backdrop...this feature could make life much easier. #photoshop #focusmasking

Recent portrait shoot has been featured in +Fortune Magazine and +PEOPLE this week! Wonderful profile of Arnold Harvey for Fortune's 'Heroes of the 500" series. In addition to his full time job at +Waste Management  Arnold founded Gods Connection Transition. A charity that helps over 5000 families a month. Congrats Arnold!

The story behind (likely) the most seen photograph ever taken. Just incredible.

Ars Nova Images Headshot Studio was founded in 2008 and is a one person operation. I'm dedicated to consistently delivering only the highest quality headshots that show my clients in their best light. I’ve been fortunate enough to shoot TV personalities, broadway stars and work for many large DC based firms as their corporate headshot photographer. Headshot photography is my passion and I shoot literally hundred of headshots each year. I’m obsessed with great lighting, great color and high quality retouching to show all of my clients in their best possible light.

I could not have had a better experience. I think everyone is fairly uncomfortable with the whole idea of a photo shoot of themselves, but Joe made it absolutely comfortable. My wife used him previously, so I already had an idea of how he works, which is why I returned to him without hesitation. However, the entire experience was as good as can be asked for, from the ease of parking, to his home studio (which is located on the ground floor of his home in a very professional environment, so no reason to be concerned about walking through his personal space!), to the background music he has playing, the offer of refreshments, to the easy going conversation that made me feel comfortable in the not-so-comfortable situation. I was in and out of his studio in a half hour and Joe consistently underpromised and overperformed, getting my pics back to me faster than promised, while also throwing in a freebie or two. I wouldn't write a review unless I thought it was a great experience, but it was and Joe is well worth every penny (in fact, I would've paid more).

I highly recommend Joe! He's highly competent and professional. He assures that you don't feel rushed and it's clearly important to him that you're a satisfied customer who leaves with the high quality picture(s) you want. If you're driving, his studio is easy to find and it's easy to find on the street parking.

Joe is a true professional and a natural behind the camera. My company and I have worked with Ars Nova on several occasions and are consistently thrilled with the results.

Joe & Ars Nova Images does amazing headshots. He was great to work with, and had great attention to detail both when photographing shots as well as editing the pictures thereafter. His location was very convenient for me, as it is in the district. He was very professional, but was also congenial enough to put me at ease while being photographed. I would definitely recommend his work!

I know Joe mainly does head shots, but he did a beautiful job on my engagement photos. Not only were his pictures fantastic, but he also scouted a ton of locations and was overflowing with ideas about poses. This was a huge help since my fiance and I were pretty clueless when it came to poses and locations. He had the final edits ready quickly and we love the pictures. Almost everyone who sees the photos asks me for his contact info, and I happily recommend Joe without reservation.
