Is this the best preschool ever? We certainly wish we'd gone there!
Kids will be kids. And being kids, one of the things they are inevitably going to do is play in rain puddles. No matter how they might be scolded later, the sheer joy of splish-splashing through some nice big puddles exerts an irresistible magnetic force on little feet. Rather than trying to reign in that youthful ...

Full-circle! Some of these are kind of cool!
Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama is actually pretty new to the manga and anime scene, with the runaway hit franchise being his only notable work out of just three total published properties. The giant-people-eating-regular-sized-people anime and manga series has been met with wide praise and probably, like, ...

Time to level up, folks.
Not too long after we started dating, my wife and I were walking through a seaside park, hand-in-hand. The sun was shining and the mood relaxing and romantic. Just as I took a deep breath of the sweet ocean breeze, though, an insect landed on my wife’s arm, causing her to scream, recoil in horror, and practically p ...

Who's hungry??
"I mean, we have sushi here in Cuba, but it's terrible. You're better off eating it in Japan!" That was the advice our reporter Yuichiro got when, craving a taste of home, he asked a Cuban friend where he could find some tasty sushi in his home country. But for some reason, his friend's protestations made our intr ...

To be fair, we'd scream if we were trapped in an elevator with one of these people, too!
So far we’ve seen depictions of popular video game series Street Fighter through cosplay, in classrooms, and even re-imagined on Sesame Street. But what about getting back to the basics of the game, and honing your fighting skills for when "a new challenger appears"? YouTube channel fouseyTUBE takes to the streets ...

We love cats. You love cats. But did you know there's an entire page - no, make that 17 pages - of cat-related posts all available on our "Cats" tag page?

Have at it, folks: http://en.rocketnews24.com/tag/cats/
Mitsuaki Iwago is a notable wildlife photographer, and is the only Japanese photographer to have his work grace the cover of National Geographic more than once. So far he has journeyed to over nine different countries to photograph cats, and he doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Iwago believes that by studying cats we can better understand people, and has mentioned his affinity for shooting felines during multiple interviews. Apparently th...

The next time someone threatens you by saying "I hope you like hospital food", make sure this doesn't pop into your head.
During my time in Japan, I’ve been thrown into a cherry blossom tree, hit by a car, and sucker punched by a wannabe tough guy in Shibuya Station, but luckily I’ve never needed to be hospitalized. That means I’ve been able to avoid the anxiety-filled situation of having a doctor explain an urgent medical procedure t ...

Something for the weekend, perhaps?
Remember those beautiful edible "jewels" that we shared with you a couple of weeks ago? Made simply from sugar, agar-agar, and a beverage of your choice, the jewels are both pretty to look at and make a cool - in both senses of the word - summer treat. They're still all the rage right now on Japanese social media, ...

Meanwhile in Japan, other celebrations of a very different kind were going on– Japan’s first ever robot wedding! Yes, that's right, two Japanese robots said I do and tied the knot.

Introduction
What is RocketNews24?
Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, RocketNews24 is a Japanese-language news blog. Since our humble launch in 2008 we’ve built a massive fan base by reporting the interesting, strange and random, much of it brought over from the English-speaking world.

Two years later, we launched our English site to bring Asia’s own brand of strange to the English-speaking world. Most of the articles we offer are translated right from our Japanese site, providing you unique stories and trivial information about Japan, by Japan.

We hope to show you that Japan and Asia are full of wonders, and, more than anything, we hope to make you smile!
