5 Napkin Burger is a small chain of restaurants opened to capitalize on NYC's growing burger trend. Decorated fairly classy, a friend and I came for happy hour because he insisted. We took advantage of some discounted buffalo wings and taquitos--along with some pints--all of which were very good. Their beer list wasn't too innovative, but it was solid and all of it was $5 a pint during happy hour. Our server was very friendly and efficient, much more so than you'd typically see in a bar area. While I didn't expected much from 5 Napkin Burger, I had a good time and I'm glad I gave it a shot. I kept things simple and ordered the original 5 napkin burger. The burger was very good and cooked to a proper medium rare. The carmelized onions and gruyere cheese complemented the meat well, and the white roll was actually decent. What I didn't like was the rosemary aioli, as they put a huge dollop of it on top of the patty. It didn't taste terrible mind you; there was just so much of it that it overpowered everything else and oozed out the sides. Other than making the burger true to its name--I needed 5 napkins to wipe this crap off my hands--it served no productive purpose and I subsequently wiped it all off. The fries the burger came with were nice and crisp though, and my friend enjoyed his burger (forgot what he had) as well. Next time I'll order the same thing and ask for the aioli on the side. Even if they're a chain, their burger beats out a few of the hyped burger joints in the city. Prices aren't cheap (my burger was $16), but the quality is there and happy hour is a great deal. I wouldn't come out of my way, but if you're nearby and without a good idea like we were, this is a solid choice.

The burger was good and the service was great. It was super crowded but I was seated quickly. They have a lot of variety in their menu which is often a warning sign to me (Sushi?!) but this burger did not disappoint. I had a 5 Napkin Classic . I ordered it medium but it was more on the medium-rare side - better than the other end of the scale in my opinion though. I couldn't really taste the gruyere, or even the caramelized onions really, but the rosemary aioli was really good. As a side note, I overheard a woman at the table next to mine tell her dining companions that it was the best vegetarian burger she'd ever had. (Looked like she had ordered the burger salad.)

Slowly becoming a regular here! Cool ambiance, kind of a 60s feel with a modern twist. Have tried several different drinks and menu items here. I have always been pleased. The main reason I keep coming back is because of the GREAT, AMAZING, FANTASTIC service I receive every.single.time. The bartender Manny.... Ohhhhh Manny, you are going to ruin my pockets! He is friendly, provides fast service, knowledgeable about the menu and actually gives good recommendations. I would definitelyyyyyyy recommend asking for him by name! Thanks Manny, see you soon!

5 Napkin Burger is completely average. They offer some interesting dishes (lobster sliders, sushi, etc.), and I opted for the Ahi Tuna Burger ($16). The restaurant uses sushi grade tuna, and cooks it to your liking (I asked for medium-rare). The burger was fine -- inherently interesting because it was a tuna burger -- but the fixings were lacking. The tuna burger was garnished with mayo and onion rings. That's it. The onion rings were tasty, but the burger itself was pretty bland. The beef burgers look a lot better. My companion ordered a bacon cheeseburger ($13) that was wolfed down in minutes. The service was also oddly slow. It took over 35 minutes for us to get our food. The restaurant was not that bus, and all we ordered were two burgers!

I'm between a 3 and a 4 for this place. For the price, I actually expected a bit better. The burger was cooked well, but there wasn't much flavor -- even though in the description I expected a lot more POP! I actually needed ...ketchup to add flavor to my burger...that shouldn't be really the case...EVER, especially when I spend about $15 for a burger. The fries were really good and fresh though. Service was nice. Decor was nice. The bathroom was so fancy. I even loved their music playlist. Haha .. good date place for an evening! If you have good conversation over dinner, that will mask the mediocre food and give you a fantastic experience.
