Your Body has a Voice. Are you Listening?
with Krista Umgelter - $20

Have you ever stopped for a moment and realized your body is talking to you?

Do you know how it communicates? Like to be able to access the information to make better and more personally appropriate choices for yourself?

Your body is chatting with you all the time. For example, you drink when you are thirsty, eat when you are hungry and reach for a Kleenex when you need to blow your nose. What else is your body telling you?

Do you know it is chatting with you 24/7? Do you hear all it has to share? More importantly, do you know how to use what it is telling you to improve body function and overall well-being?

I will explain what to look for, how to use that information and we will put it into practical application with question, answers and conversation to get you mobilized to a new way of understanding your body and hearing what it is saying.

Tree of Life Low-cost Holistic Healing Clinic in Irvine, CA

Thursday evenings, 7-9pm

Prices - $20 for 30 minutes. This is a community service building towards a full-price clinic.

So far the healers are Elijah and myself.

Elijah Lorenzo Shaman is a Spiritual Healer and Clinical Hypnotherapist who has provided hands-on-healing and spiritual counseling for 42 yrs. He is an Native Indian from So. California, Tipai Band. His Shamanic lineage is from the ancestral lineage of Kuseyaay, of Kuuchamaa Holy Mountain. "I just say the word, Healing Starts to Manifest. It's Ancestral Acknowledgment."

Health Intuitive Bruce Dickson has been serving clients professionally since 2001. With your permission, I connect with your own Higher Guidance so together, we can look at whatever concerns you have.

I did my doctorate thesis work in Holistic Brain Balance, documented in seven books. Best Practices in Energy Medicine series is another 20 books, all at Amazon-Kindle.

For 20 years I worked with K-5 children and special needs kids, teens and adults. Child psychology issues welcome.

Why a low-cost holistic health clinic?

Many of us are convinced a major change in healthcare has begun. In 50-100 years, holistic-complementary healthcare seems likely to replace conventional MDs and hospitals for wellness and chronic concerns. Accident and trauma medicine will still be MDs and hospitals.

This will require thousands of local clinics. Getting them going is the bottle neck. I've worked in three holistic clinics. Most start-up Best Practices come from Acupuncture-TCM colleges. A series of natural steps exists:

1) Run a low-cost community service. This is the main PR activity to attract people and build the contact list. If you do this smartly, you can even receive TV coverage. Secondarily low-cost sessions feed clients into full-price paid sessions.

2) Out of this a group of healers form who are like-minded and wish to work together. This creates the energetic "personality" of the practice. This energetic is what clients tune into and how they know us.

3) As traffic increases, expand the hours of service. Offer classes.

4) As traffic increases, expand to weekday service hours, full-price paid sessions only. This becomes the Clinic.

5) Over time, if a student certification process evolves, the low-cost event evolves into low-cost student practice clinic.

These steps take time <sigh> If we never start, we never get where we are going.

Q: What legal protections do the healers have?

A: We use the Calif. rules protecting holistic practitioners from unfair liability. This amounts to making and keeping good records. I have forms.

Initial hours of service

So far Thursday nights 7-9pm look best. 6:30-7:00 is for healers to check-in with each other, discuss personal and professional needs, a healer support group.

Clients will tell us what hours work best.

If you hve a better name and brand, please suggest them. We want a "brand" and logo which will still make sense in 50 years, when we really do start to take over commercial healthcare.

One of the few exceptions to "Spirit does not want holistic healers working for free" is offering initial gift sessions. This demonstrates generosity and is a Best Practice for healers who do not yet have full appointment books. Consumers can test-drive a clinic to learn if they wish to have more sessions with us. Jerry suggests alternatively just make the very first class f r e e. No initial gift sessions after. Which do you think will attract more people in the long run?

Q: Does this compete directly with the Faire where the same people charge more per session?

A: Yes it competes. However, this event has no psychic readings or card readings of any kind. The focus is physical wellness, wholeness, healing and prevention-with the clients' Higher Guidance as your Guide and Partner.

Learning Light has both a Healers Studio and Readers Studio; each has a very different vibe; each offers a different benefit.

Q: How will events be marketed?

A: School will do all the things we have been doing plus this re-branded Meetup. Each healer participant will naturally promote to their contact list.

Other benefits to healers

Hand out your cards, enroll them in full price sessions at the School or elsewhere. Build your email list. All healers get ALL the emails for every night they participate in.

- 30 min check-in and opening prayer for healers begins each event. Not open to customers.

- Get to know like-minded healers by trading sessions.

- Support on list-building, websites, etc from Bruce on request.

Restrictions on healing methods

No singing bowls, no human signing, no rattles (I learned this from Learning Light)

Tables okay. We have two extras we can use. I can set up. Chair massage okay if you bring chair massage unit.

No incense and no candles. Jerry just spent time and money unclogging a sing with candle wax poured down it.

No perfumes or scents of ANY kind. Too many healers and clients are super-sensitive.

Any more questions? Okay to call me 626-627-0296. Okay to call Jerry at the School.

Why are multi-practitioner holistic healing clinics so few and far between in the USA now?

Because a healthy, cooperative-collaborative group energetic is challenging to build. The trend of the last ten years has been single-practitioners holistic clinics are less and less profitable. A group-process solution seems the only way forward. Seems appropriate for the shift from Piscean to Aquarian Age, doesn't it?

In the USA we tend to imagine profitable-sustainable holistic clinics grow up around one skilled and charismatic practitioner. I call this the "self-made man" theory of clinic formation.

Profitable-sustainable holistic clinics built around a founding chiropractor, acupuncturist do exist. However, just as many or more profitable-sustainable holistic are group practices where a cooperative-collaborative group energy informs, directs and nurtures the effort. I believe these successful group-practice businesses are throw-forwards to the future of work generally.

Q: Doesn't one ego, the legal name owner, tend to have final say in these orgs?

A: Yes. However the "weighty" individual(s) often clearly understand running a clinic all alone would be too much responsibility and no fun at all. They understand a range of methods, thinking styles and personalities works best to share responsibility. No Donald Trump Holistic Clinics exist at all. In sustainable clinics, personal accountability, keeping your word, doing what you said you would do, is major. Mutual accountability is major.

Why? The more successful you are, the more responsibility exists. Each practitioner. has to rely on all others to operate ethically and follow state reporting requirements.

Matt Taibbi article I liked

I like Matt's comment very much! Only think I can add is this is Civil War Weather, a great dividing is going on and Trump is the Divider in Chief.

The good aliens call this time of dividing the time when individuals align themself with Service to Self Alone or align themself with Service to Self and Others.

More simply put, Trump is dividing people into those who align with truly human values, however conceived and those for whom truly human values have no meaning.

A simple, perhaps more effective terminology arises out of the above. On one hand Progressives, who are optimistic about a future with more equlaity and higher standard of living for the majority. On the other hand the REgressives, those who look back to the 1980s or the 1950s as when "we got it right."

Not all Liberals are Progressives. DNC Dems are Regressive. They want Washington DC to go back to the 1980s and 1990s. That's NOT Progressive. Berniecrats are the main democratic Progressives.

Because values are in play, just as in the US Civil War, brother and brother can take opposing sides, husbands and wives can take opposing sides.

Where do you stand?

Five guidelines for learning any energy healing technique

The human element is crucial to learning any new Energy Medicine technique. We primarily learn Energy techniques from each other, in person, not from books or video.

An exception to this rule, does a good job of proving the rule. EFT-TFT, meridian tapping, can be learned from 20,000 video tutorials on YouTube. But guess what? While 50% or more of users can receive rapid benefit from this technique, way under 10% of viewers of meridian tapping tutorials continue with the practice for six months or more.

I encourage people to have their own experience with meridian tapping. I also invite those interested to learn more coherent methods on the Energy Medicine Skill Ladder, sensory awareness, meridian tracing, muscle testing, etc. So...

Guideline #1 ~ Prefer to learn new energy live, in person, face-to-face, with a teacher and by practicing on fellow students.

A danger in learning energy healing methods from each other, is students easily focus on the person teaching and only learn the method the way the teacher does it.

Guideline #2 ~ Don't focus on the teacher. Focus on the Unconscious Patterns they use to navigate by when you watch them work on clients.

Touch for Health (T4H) is a classic example here. After publication of the first edition booklet in 1974, the great popularity of T4H was in large part because it was hands-on learning of acupuncture meridian locations, healthy directions of flow and alarm-sedation points.

On top of that, T4H was many people's first introduction to technical muscle anatomy. On top of that, T4H was everyone's first introduction to neuro-vascular holding points, what we might call treatment points, a modality which permutated into Net Mind Body, TBM and other point testing-treatment modes of Energy Medicine.

Let's acknowledge acupuncture meridians and muscle anatomy are valid Unconscious Patterns. We make them more conscious by learning them. We learn them by practice, by using them. Primarily we do this practicing on fellow students, other live human beings.

Acupuncture meridians remain one of the most useful Unconscious Patterns worth knowing about and studying, if moving invisible energy towards health interests you.

Yet it's a mistake to imagine no additional Unconscious Patterns have been learned since meridians were uncovered. Original Psychosomatic Medicine (1955-1965) and early NLP (1970s) marked the modern resurgence of interest in useful Unconscious Patterns. More patterns were uncovered by Ned Herrmann ( ) and Bertrand Babinet in Babinetics ( primarily documented in books here ). The current best exposition is the booklet Unconscious Patterns in the Light of the Inner Child and NLP

The more Unconscious Patterns you are familiar with, the easier and faster you can navigate around in your own unconscious, where all of us are functionally "blind."

Guideline #3 ~ When dealing with invisible energy, of any kind, intending God to be your Partner, is a Best Practice for psychic-spiritual self-protection.

Invisible etheric energy is "sticky." Even if you can't perceive it, it can stick to you. Students and practitioners working on the invisible energy of clients, expose themselves to lower frequency energy (negativity) unhealthy to take into your own energy body. Nothing beats mindfulness when protecting yourself from picking up unnecessary, unwanted negative energy released from clients.

A big part of mindful psychic-spiritual self-protection is ASKING--at the beginning of each and every client session--for Soul and Above to be your Partner in the process.

There is no one way to do this. The primary action is your intention to connect with your own Higher Guidance, the Higher Guidance of the client and pray (ask) any unwanted energies released from the client be taken down into the Earth (where they came from mostly) or up back into the Heart of God for transmuting and recycling.

You believe in recycling, don't you? ALL energy has intelligence, even negative energy released from clients. By your intention you can arrange where it goes to after leaving your client. Guess what? That will always be away from you personally.

Guideline #4 ~ Focus on how YOU use the method uniquely. Beware of those slavishly imitating the teacher.

Did you know everyone's hands are each a bit different? Did you know no two right-handers hold a baseball bat in a baseball game exactly the same way? We each use the same tool somewhat uniquely. Energy Medicine methods are simply tools to move invisible energy for the highest good of all concerned. Each of us uses these tools uniquely as well.

The more you practice, the more your own unique talents and gifts will emerge over time. Look for these.

Guideline #5 ~ Exchange practice sessions with other students and practitioners, as you feel comfortable doing so.

Holistic practitioners trading sessions to learn from and benefit each other is not new. However I am often surprised by how few working professionals continue trading sessions with each other. Doing so is one of the best antidotes to practitioner burnout.

Perhaps the biggest barrier to trading sessions is our own unhealthy, unconscious boundaries.

Most healer students start off as over-givers. Over-giving is the classic symptom and behavior of poor boundaries in your unconscious. Almost every healer I know works towards shoring up their over-giving and learning healthy boundaries. Expect this. Talk about it. Ask for support on this. Learn the "Shields up!" technique from Star Trek.

If you have additional guidelines for learning Energy Medicine methods, please let me know.

Four quadrants in our Head, Gut and Heart - Q&A

Last week I was asked by a wonderful psychologist to explain what I do. The title above popped out. I explore our Four Quadrants for purposes of healing and wholeness. Perhaps this raises more questions in your mind...

Q: Are all three sets of quadrants the same?

A: No. Each resides in a specific location in our body image. The locations are stable universally.

Q: Where are they on the Freud-Jung-Steiner scale of Conscious, Sub-conscious, Unconscious?

A: All quadrant activity is unconscious. No wonder it took so long to come to the attention of Westerners doing basic research in human psychology.

A: Are all sets of quadrants the same frequency?

Q: No. Each functions within a distinct range of frequency. These do not overlap much-unless and until--you wish to become more integrated and whole-brained.

Q: In one quadrant system, is the content of each quadrant the same or different?

A: All different, but the same four archetypes appear in each quadrant system (Bertrand's uncovery of the Inner Family).

Q: Are the Inner Family arranged in the same pattern in all three quadrant systems?

A: No. Quadrants in the lower two systems, heart and gut, have the same arrangement and presentation. The Inner Family in our head quadrants are arranged in a separate, stable presentaton, universally present.

Q: Are all three quadrant systems the same for men and women; or, do they vary between male and female like the chakras might?

A: All three sets of quadrants the same for men and women universally on Earth.

Q: Are they the same for children and adults?

A: No. The principal and primary pattern of human development birth up to puberty is as described in all Waldorf whole-child development texts.

Q: What happens to the quadrants from before puberty to after puberty?

A: The stable pattern of quadrants can only be cognized after puberty. In Three Selves terms, the Basic Self is the locus of control in children in utero up to puberty. Prior to puberty, the four quadrants in our gut predominate and are the locus of control. Their task is to build self-esteem as recorded and measured in the Conception Vessel in front.

After puberty the locus of control switches to Conscious Self. From then on our Head Quadrants and Governing Vessel (self-concept) in back store for playback the majority of our Habits as adults.

As children before puberty, we are primarily conscious and awake to the activity of our gut quadrants as this is where our habits of reacting to self, others, world, God are stored.

After puberty Conscious Self becomes the stand-in for our immortal-eternal soul. Its task is to make healthy choices and decisions. That's The Plan anyway.

Want to give God a chance? If it's good--do it. If it's not good--don't do it ~ John Morton

Q: Do animals-mammals have these same quadrants?

A: No evidence of this to date. The speculation is no evidence is likely to come forward. Human beings are not the same as even the higher apes, as materialistic science wishes to equate us.

Q: Why is four quadrants such a common, durable pattern?

A: It is not a theory, not an abstraction, not "quantum." Four Quadrants can be perceived-verified-validated by two approaches. The presence of, and contents of, quadrant systems can be perceived thru direct clairvoyant observation, for those who can see and wish to look.

The second method is muscle testing and self-testing. Basic researchers in psychology no longer have to be highly clairvoyant to perceive the pattern of the quadrants. You can perceive them thru self-testing and muscle checking experiments.

Q: Is a Four Quadrants approach the same as "humoral medicine"?

A: No. It's a mistake to think "history" as intellectual or religious tradition plays much of a role here. True, considerable history of Four Elements exists, in Western thought, since ancient Greek times as "humoral medicine." The Four Humors was the major, accepted pattern in human psyches used by healers and doctors, until the 1850s, when the germ theory took over. Greek origins are at the base of humoral medicine. Not so for the Four Quadrants and Inner Family. Four Quadrants is also NOT the same as Rudolf Steiner's Four Temperaments.

Q: Why is this ancient pattern coming back since 2000?

A: Two reasons. One is while few people are sufficiently clairvoyant to perceive-verify-validate natural phenomena in the Four Quadrants, since the mid-1960s hundreds and then thousands of people became active muscle testers and self-testers. A significant fraction of these work on clients in clinical settings, affording them opportunity to conduct large numbers of basic research experiments.

For those curious, the reality of differing, stable character of four quadrants in each of three areas is cheap and easy to perceive-verify-validate.

The second reason the Four Quadrants is coming back is the effectiveness of understanding and working with Unconscious Patterns. In the 1850s when the germ theory took over from Humoral Medicine, the germ theory in the West wiped out any, all and every competing insight into human health and disease; for example, homeopathy and chiropractic. 50 years now into holistic health and healing, it may be difficult to imagine the utter stranglehold and corrupt anti-competition practices used to promote-establish germ theory as the sole, undisputed model of human health and disease. It was at the time a big positive breakthru. At the same time, the baby was thrown out with the bathwater. Superstition and humoral medicine were thrown on the trash heap of Western history, along with any interest in Unconscious Patterns.

This skewed medical and psychology basic research towards only pathology, drugs and surgery. Authentic basic research into human psyches was put on hold.

Interest in Unconscious Patterns only re-awakened in original Psychosomatic Medicine, 1955-1965. In the mid-1870s the topic re-emerged in the wider context of the whole person. Psychosomatic symptoms were immediately recognized as a useful paradigm in holistic healing methods of all kinds. The lack of a comprehensive holistic theory and general holistic experimental method prevented stronger forward movement. Courtesy of Goethe, these were uncovered in 2014.

Due to the wide availability and low cost of muscle testing; and, the tremendous therapeutic power of Unconscious Patterns, the Four Quadrants are coming back into use slowly. We should see significant mainstream interest in about 100 years.

Q: Is the Four Quadrants the same as our etheric body?

A: No. The Four Quadrants is only one of an unknown number of etheric forms, features and capacities.

The Four Quadrants arise from the four-fold character of etheric formative forces. Let's remember etheric forces are mystery itself. The "Great Mystery" points 100% to etheric forces, which can be defined many ways; including, as the Divine Feminine.

Q: What is the state of etheric forces literature?

A: There is hardly any significant literature. The book Etheric Formative Forces, by Rudolf Steiner's secretary, Geunther Wachsmuth, free online, if you can find it, has proven over time to be more a defense of Steiner's ideas than a modern introduction.

The better starting place on a literature of etheric forces is one single book, Man or Matter, 3rd ed. (1985) by Ernst Lehrs. Nick Thomas (Editor), Peter Bortoft (Editor) The preferred third edition is here It's about $30 delivered. The first edition is free online but is a famously difficult read. I've read both. Start with the third ed. By the way, the original title was Man and Matter, which makes more sense. I recommend the first 12 chapters of third ed; the rest is esoteric even beyond Energy Medicine.

Theosophical-Rosicrucian literature on etheric forces exists but has not proven popular nor useful. Why? Because it attempts a mental understanding of etheric forces. Not until Lehrs, in the 1950s, who was a Waldorf high school science teacher, was anyone able to write in such a way to point to the etheric without equating ether and mind. Paradoxically what we call "thinking" is another manifestation of etheric phenomena, at its higher frequency end.

Lehrs antidotes most every flaw and confused idea of the Quantum Discussion. Man or Matter is one of very few books in any field speaking directly to a future Goethean Holistic Science compatible with and supportive of truly human values.

The second piece of etheric forces literature which can stand with Lehrs, known to me, is chapters 19-24 of Balance on All Levels PACME+Soul;
Finally, a general holistic experimental method; The Three Sciences we use everyday; Holistic Psychology 2.0

Chapter 19: Goethean Holistic Science

Chapter 20: Three Sciences

Chapter 23-24

Review of Edu-K in light of Unconscious Patterns

Full disclosure ~ I've been a fan of and followed Paul Dennison since 1986. In the 1980s I was treated by two practitioners trained by him. I have not taken any of his Edu-K nor Brain Gym classes. I'm much more a fan of Edu-K than I am of basic Brain Gym.

Published in 1984, this manual is for his advanced Edu-Kinesthetics class. The present BrainGym class using this manual(?) is two days in duration.

This manual will primarily be of interest to people who have taken this training. If you have taken other Dennison trainings but not this advanced class, this MAY make sense to you. I found several gems.

The view from Dec 2016, shows things have clearly progressed. How does Edu-K look in retrospect?

The good news is Edu-K remains wonderfully artistic, hands-on and balanced between analysis and intuition. Whole-brainedness reached a peak in Edu-K probably unmatched in the history of holistic methods to 2010. EK consistently tries to view clients as whole systems, as a hologram of multiple intelligences (my phrase).

On the other side, like most other early muscle testing Energy Medicine methods, from the 1980s-1990s, many of its concepts now seem dated, idiosyncratic and esoteric-NOT invalid, simply dated.

What changed since 1984? Practitioners doing basic research in Energy Medicine applied to the human unconscious got more clear: the endgame is uncovering Unconscious Patterns so we can navigate by them. Even more than Touch for Health, Edu-K was going towards uncovering archetypes and Unconscious Patterns useful for client support.

Among the original goals and promise of Psychosomatic Medicine, 1955-1965 and NLP circa 1974, was basic research to uncover and document as many authentic Unconscious Patterns as possible.

How we navigate when blind
Physically blind persons must navigate by means of known landmarks, memory and experiments (testing, checking).

Equally, where Conscious Waking Self is blind, can't see, is "in the dark," we too we must navigate by means of known landmarks, memory, testing and checking.

In psychology, in our own psyche; and in the psyches of clients, where we are blind, we navigate primarily by means of Unconscious Patterns landmarks, memory and testing.

Each test, each check amounts to a tiny experiment whose results tell us to go more this way; or, go more that way.

Where are all blind? In our own unconscious.

This is by design. The archetypal myth for this circumstance is Theseus in the Labyrinth seeking to locate and slay the Minotaur. Full discussion in my muscle testing books.

What happened to this impulse? Looking back I think we can see it got sidetracked a bit in listing and checking physical systems.

Edu-K 1984 is a bit too much like TBM. Total Body Management was an offshoot of Applied Kinesiology, aimed primarily at licensed MDs. TBM is now mostly "expired" but gave many practitioners in the 1990s a wonderful holistic methodology.

TBM's knowledge base was founded on a comprehensive list of eleven (11) active physical body system. (See The Eleven Body Systems )

The 11 body systems of TBM and the seven "dimensions" of Edu-K are indeed aspects of our unconscious, are meant to uncover and expose what is and is not working in our unconscious.

However neither TBM's systems nor Edu-K's dimensions are archetypal. Testing clients by these methods yields collections of valid data points--for one individual. TBM and Edu-K did not yet aspire to get at Unconscious Patterns across all humanity.

On top of this, TBM trained practitioners to use 50-100 reflex points to test on the body. On top of that TBM used 100 test vials for manual tests for client toxicity or client benefit.

I've often remarked TBM is emblematic of the progress and limitations of holistic methodologies in the 1990s.

Does the lack of universal archetypes in TBM and Edu-K make them invalid?

No. It does however give both methods the coloring of idiosyncratic. For lay persons and clients methods appear esoteric and abstruse. The more idiosyncratic methods are, the more difficult for practitioners in the same field to understand and learn from each other. The archives of Touch for Health conference papers suggest this endlessly

Our unconscious is like a three-year-old
What have we learned in basic research since 1980s-1990s? We've learned our unconscious is mostly like a three-year-old.

To a three-year-old we don't have "realms" and we don't have "dimensions." To a three-year-old, these are purely abstract, abstractions--as are many NLP concepts and terms.

Our unconscious intelligence has to think symbolically. It uses fairy tale thinking. Fairy tales resonate with how it thinks. This is why Scripts People Live, Why We Pick the Mates we do, Games People Play remain so useful today and ongoing.

What a three-year-old has and knows starts with safety, trust, resonance, frequency, music and colors.

To its continued credit, Edu-K is methods and ideas to make a three-year-old feel safe, feel trusting and to uncover how she perceives life and her own body. Perhaps only inner child work per se is more child-friendly.

Edu-K methods attempt to focus on reference points even a young child can perceive and work with. This is why Dennison's work, perhaps more his early work, remains one of the most effective healing toolboxes for addressing psychological and neurological disturbances in children, than any other method yet devised so far.

Q: How did these themes evolve after the 1980s?

A: Looking back, the biggest breakthru, little regarded outside, was Bertrand Babinet's Babinetics.

Babinetics was the first muscle testing method to incorporate:
both gut and head brain,
- archetypal patterns (Inner Family, PACME, four hurts, etc) and
- to teach navigate archetypal patterns with muscle testing.

Babinetics used the two brains model, gut and head. This put it way ahead of other holistic methods. Neither Mr. Google nor I can find evidence Edu-K ever advanced to a gut and head brain model.

Since 2010 the quadrants of our two brains in our etheric body are proving to be more influential as an Inner Dashboard than acupuncture meridians for psychological and most neurological disturbances. Acupuncture meridians remain predominant for addressing all non-emergency physical disturbances.

Folks, forty years in, we are only at Day One or Day Two of how holistic health and healing will evolve.

Q: How does this apply to a review of this 1984 manual?

A: Without being informed by use of authentic Unconscious Patterns, like most methods of the 1980s-1990s, this Edu-K manual is a collection of discrete methods, how to do them, for those already somewhat familiar and wishing to learn more.

I'm also positive any 2017 live training in these methods will be transformation to any attendee willing to heal.

To Learn More ~ As of Dec 2016, the wisdoms and insights of Babinetics are primarily documented in the Holistic Brain Balance book series. A rumor Bertrand will re-publish his Inner Family book (1997) has so far not materialized.

George Lakoff written summary
for Progressives and Berniecrats

George Lakoff written summary
for Progressives and Berniecrats

Excellent, short, clear, 15 minute audio spoken by Lakoff himself here Thanksgiving, 2016, summary of metaphor models and Conservative value hierarchy.

Lakoff podcast interviews over the last ten years are his most accessible presentations in my experience. Many videos of him speaking at his site here

Mr. Google can't find me any good, accessible succinct WRITTEN summary of Lakoff's ideas in print. Here's a DRAFT for COMMENT written summary contributed by Bruce Dickson of

I also bring in a few topics from closely related fields apparently unknown to Lakoff, which superbly support his thesis.

This summary is edited-revised-paraphrased from a recent, Nov. 2016 online article by Laoff, "Understanding Trump" from

Where not too intrusive, my blatant additions are in [brackets].

Lakoff: There is a lot being written and spoken about Trump by intelligent and articulate commentators whose insights I respect.

As a longtime researcher in cognitive science and linguistics, I bring a perspective to understanding Trump phenomena.

Many people seem to enjoy this perspective. More than half a million people have read my books. Google Scholar reports academics writing in scholarly journals have cited my works over 100,000 times.

Still you probably won't hear what I have to say in the NY Times, nor hear it from corporate political commentators. As of lae 2016 we are not yet hearing any of this from Democratic candidates or party strategists.

I am writing now because I see many people questioning what happened Nov. 8th. Answers for what happened do exist. What happened can be understood. Positive responses can be crafted, need to be composed and articulated by many of us. Positive responses to Trumpism are not going to come from corporate political commentators. The answers and positive responses are coming from basic research in cognitive and linguistic sciences. It's time to move these new rhetorical tools more into the center of public political discourse.

My apologies if the answers available don't fit into a Tweet or a 650-word op-ed. Maybe you can communicate these ideas more economically than I can.

The outline we'll follow is:
- First an updated version of who is supporting Trump and why,
- Then why real facts and policy details are tertiary or irrelevant to Trump and his supporters,
- Lastly, how Democratic campaigns can communicate better.

All these things need to be understood if we are to transform a Trump presidency and/or replace him with something better, not worse.

Who Supports Trump and Why

Why and how did Trump become the Republican nominee for President? Various theories for this exist:

- People are angry. He channels their anger and speaks to their feeling of being dishonored,

- Congress is discredited and dysfunctional; people want a non-politician.

Both theories may be true-but why? What is the rhetorical mechanism operating which created Trump's "success"? [What is the meaning and value people see in Trump, the rest of us view so differently? Why do many personally identify with Trump, in spite of his obvious flaws and gaffs, when the majority of us do not identify with him?] Why Trump, why not [a less obvious, more subtle representative of Dysfunctional Masculinity]? ... What is going on?

Answers exist but to hear them we need a clearer rhetorical context than corporate media provides the public.

In the 1900’s, I wanted to answer a question; in terms of cognition, does any overall Unconscious Pattern exist to the policy positions of conservatives and progressives? If I could identify a Pattern, this would help explain what enables each group's policies to hang together.

Take conservatism:
What connects being against abortion--with being pro-guns?

What does owning guns have to do withdenying global warming?

How does being anti-government fit with-wanting a stronger military?

How can you be pro-life and-for the death penalty?

Let's admit these are basic questions, few are asking them, fewer have coherent answers.

Now let's look at Progressives. They have different views. What connects their policy positions? How do their views hang together? For an Unconscious Pattern to be valid it must apply equally to both Regressives and Progressives.

Two views of "how a family should work"
What I found was what holds each set of views together as a whole, is a subconscious model of 'how a family should work.'

Conservatives have their subconscious metaphor-model for 'how a family should work.'

Progressives have a very different subconscious metaphor-model for 'how a family should work.'

Why we ascribe family metaphors to all larger tribes

We all tend to understand ourself, our neighborhood, nation and the world in terms of how our family of origin operated.

[Q: Wait, I don't believe this. I view my city, state and nation by the way I was taught in middle school, high school and college.

[A: Yes, you do-but only from the neck-up. From the neck-down, our view of the world is highly colored by your peak experiences, good and bad, each of us had, from birth to age three. Few people ever escape the "conditioning" and "programming" of interpersonal interactions--good and bad--between birth and age three. See To Learn More below for the research.

[There is no other easy way, to think about tribes larger than your family, other than "thru the lens" of your own tribe of origin.]

In other words, subconsciously we all view ourselves, our neighborhood, nation and the world in terms of the family tribe we grew up in.

[Q: If this is so, how does anyone ever progress from an older Conservative family model to the kinder-gentler Progressive family model?

[A: Individuals progress from older to newer models by re-examining their family mythology and metaphors. This only occurs individually. Only a fraction of individuals do this inner work. Those who do, become a very significant fraction of the population, those with more understanding and who can see both sides.

[Unless we have consciously and deliberately done the work to examine and upgrade our family of origin metaphors and mythology, the Scripts People Live; then, we remain stuck with whatever family of origin myths we grew up with.

[In other words, each person views the national political conversation thru the tinted glasses of their early family experience. We uncover and expose these biased views by means of contrasting metaphors. ]

In most familiar language, we are first governed in our family of origin. Hence, we grow up understanding governing institutions in terms of the governing systems of our family.

Family metaphors permeate our national discourse

Every hear of the "founding fathers"? Ever hear a speech about sending our sons and daughters to war? Ever hear of "homeland security"?

Conservative and progressive moral worldviews are based on two different experiences of family life. I call these the Nurturant Parenting family (progressive) and the Strict Father family (conservative-regressive).

Character of Strict Father families

In the strict father family, father knows best [and is honored far above Mother or Wise, Accepting Grandparent (mentor archetype)]. Father knows right from wrong. Father has ultimate authority to make sure his children and his spouse are safe and do what he says. Within the family tribe, what Father says is gospel.

[Q: Why? Where does this come from?

[A: Physical survival. Imagine Inuit families growing up in rural Alaska in the 1900s; and, imagine families growing up in rural Africa now. Think survival. Imagine how child safety and obeying Father's rules and restriction are matters of life and death in all primitive circumstances. ]

Many conservative women accept this worldview; they support masculine authority. They align with conveying strict discipline to children and in all areas of family life they are in charge of. The good news? Children often grow up understanding and embodying admirable self-discipline. Family-based moral worldviews run deep thru these tribal mechanisms.

In the strict father family, when children disobey, it is Father's moral duty to punish them painfully. The unconscious model here is to avoid punishment, the child will obey or conform (do what is right). [If you know something of NLP or Unconscious Patterns, you'll recognize "Away From" and "Pain Avoidant" strategies here.

[Conversely, when the child "does what is right," obeys, conforms, the child is praised and rewarded.

[Few conservative families will know much about the field of K-12 classroom management. Best Practices in this field are recent, date only from the 1980s and 1990s. The ultimate uselessness of the praise-punishment-reward system of child discipline was proved conclusively in this period. This news has yet to circulate widely outside of K-12 teacher-training circles. See To Learn More at the end. ]

In a strict father family, in the face of threats to physical survival, what is the greatest danger to children? That the child will simply do what feels good and disobey the Father's rules.

Threats to physical survival in the Industrial West are minuscule compared to more primitive cultures. Nevertheless, Conservatives transpose traditional responses and rules about physical survival to the new world of business and commerce. [Economic and business survival is subconsciously equated with physical survival. ]

Survival in business and commerce means learning self-discipline, learning physical discipline so children become internally strong, so they can get and hold a good-paying job; and therefore, survive and prosper in the world of business and commerce.

Q: What if the children don’t prosper? What if the children can't find work?

A: The children's success or failure reflects directly and primarily on the Father. He has failed.

Father then has two choices. He can re-examine his assumptions, rules and models. Or he can blame his children for their failure to obey his rules.

Which choice do you think takes less energy?

If the Father believes he has done his job adequately, he feels justified to blame the children for their failure to succeed and thrive.

In fewer words: the children are not disciplined. If the children can't find a job, they lack discipline.

Moral aspect of worldly failure

A virulent moral aspect is here: If the sons and daughters grow up and fail economically, either Father has failed or the children were not moral, not self-disciplined, lazy, worthless; and so, deserve their poverty.

Physical survival thinking transposed to economic survival thinking, shows up endlessly in conservative politics. The poor are seen as lazy and undeserving. Conversely, the rich are moral, deserve their wealth and deserve to keep it.

[At this point another Big Idea is very useful here, the contrast between Selfishness and Service.

[Here too we carefully define terms; this again another invisible archetypal contrast.

[This is a contrast between two paths of personal growth, between two paradigms of service.

[One idea is Service primarily and ultimately to self alone.

[The other idea is service to self first and then to others.

[The danger of Service to Self is "selfishness."

[The danger of Service to Others, even if you put yourself first is, "over-giving."

[These will help us navigate Lakoff's contrasting family metaphors more easily.]

Two views of "responsibility"

In a strict Father paradigm, responsibility is primarily personal responsibility. We're always talking survival here, whether it be physical or economic or moral.

In an extreme strict Father paradigm (towards selfishness) what you become, what you make of your self, is only up to you. Society has nothing to do with it. You are responsible for yourself, not for others. Others, each person, is responsible for themselves.

[This point of view is highly aligned with Island Man, how "each man is an island," the take-away most people receive from John Donne's poem.]

In an extreme strict Father paradigm (towards selfishness) social responsibility is not a value, not a benefit.

[Q: What about "charity begins at home"? Isn't this "family values"?

[A: Yes. Lakoff's genius is in delineating two contrasting, opposite family-tribal views. Polarities are always easiest to see first in black and white.

[Work with his metaphors over time, you begin to see the gray areas. The Progressive-positive side of "family values" comes to light. So too do the regressive-negative side of over-giving. Let's keep in mind “traditional family values” has positive conservative and positive progressive interpretations--and these differ strikingly, according to Lakoff's two metaphors.]

[Readers may enjoy reviewing Yeats' poem "The Second Coming:" "...the best (people) lack all conviction..." Poem is here ]

Winning a battle of insults
The legendary Green Bay Packers coach, Vince Lombardi, said, “Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.”

Which family metaphor do you guess embraces this sentiment?

In a world view governed by personal responsibility and self-discipline, those who win, deserve to win.

When electoral competition is seen as a battle, insults which stick are seen as victories. Consider Trump’s statement John McCain is not a war hero. The reasoning: McCain got shot down. Heroes are winners. They defeat big bad guys. They don’t get shot down. People who get shot down, beaten up, and stuck in a cage are losers, not winners.

Why does Donald Trump publicly insult other candidates and political leaders mercilessly? Simple, he knows he can win an onstage TV insult game because he has no shame. If you ignore shame as feedback, you can be completely merciless.

In strict Father eyes, this makes Trump "King of the Hill" who therefore deserves to be the winning candidate.

[Trump is the apotheosis of turning back the clock of history 1500 years, returning, regressing to "force majeur." This was the ruling political ethic at the time before King Arthur in England, 500AD. Today we know "force Majeur" as "might makes right."

[Those who think we should go back to "might makes right" misunderstand history, don't imagine what else they would have to give up. Before "might makes right" there was no "rule of law." Before "might makes right" there was only King of the Hill, dog-eat-dog, "anything goes," "all's fair in love and war."

[If you like the values of the long-running TV show, Law and Order, then you are NOT for "might makes right." Why? Because you are FOR the "rule of laws." You agree with Socrates; even tho some of man's laws are foolish, I'd rather live with man's laws than without any laws at all.

[Without the Rule of Laws, there is only mob mentality, the Klu Klux Clan making and enforcing their own laws wherever they can get away with it.

[In Might makes Right, Rule of Law be damned, those who have dominate now should continue to dominatebecause they deserve it. If you or your family has dominated for generations; then, tradition is also to be honored. Can you see this is all pre"rule of law" thinking?]

What's your Moral Hierarchy?
The antique logic of Strict father spills over into the moral sphere: authority is justified by and rests upon morality. In a well-ordered world, an established moral hierarchy exists, can exist and should exist. The moral hierarchy of the strict Father has the force, moral authority and precedent of tradition, going back a few thousand years. The hierarchy is:

God above Man,
- Man above Nature,
- The Disciplined (Strong) above the Undisciplined (Weak),
- The Rich above the Poor,
- Employers above Employees,
- Adults above Children,
- Western culture above all other cultures,
- USA above other countries.

But wait! there's more.

- Men above women,
- Whites above Non-whites,
- Christians above non-Christians,
- Straights above Gays.

This moral hierarchy of the strict Father is heard from virtually all Republican presidential candidates.

On the whole, conservative policies flow from this strict father moral hierarchy.

What purpose does a moral hierarchy serve?
People want to see themselves as doing right not wrong. Your moral worldview is part of your self-definition, your identity, your self-concept—who you most are most deeply as an adult personality [Governing Vessel in acupuncture].

Your moral worldview templates for you what the world should be like, your preferred expectations.

When it isn’t that way, we become frustrated and angry. [Hence all the feelings Progressive have after Nov. 9th, 2016.]

Important variations exist as well.

Gray area between Regressives and Progressives
A certain amount of wiggle room exists in the strict father worldview. For example, a major split exists among:

1) white Evangelical Christians,
2) laissez-fair free market conservatives, and
3) pragmatic conservatives not bound by evangelical beliefs.

White Evangelicals
Whites using a strict father worldview AND who are religious, tend toward Evangelical Christianity. Why? Because God, in [Old Testament] Evangelical Christianity, is the Ultimate Strict Father. Follow His commandments and you go to heaven. Defy His commandments and you burn in hell for all eternity.

If you are a sinner and want to go to heaven, you can be ‘born again” by declaring your fealty by choosing His son, Jesus Christ, as your personal Savior. If the child repents, re-aligns and conforms, the Father accepts the Prodigal Son back Home. [Prodigal Son is a New Testament parable appropriated to Old Testament, Strict Father interpretation.]

Conservative Christians align with Evangelical churches. Whether the chicken came first or the egg came first is true here too. Individuals may be conservative because they were raised in a conservative evangelical church.

Notice how conservative Evangelical Christianity is centered around family life: Focus on the Family and constant reference to “family values.” These are all employed to support evangelical strict father values.

In strict father morality, the father controls sexuality and reproduction, who marries who, etc. In states where conservative churches have political control, there are laws requiring parental and spousal notification in the case of proposed abortions.

Evangelicals organize politically. They exert control over a great many local political races. Thus Republican candidates mostly have to go along with the evangelicals if they want to be nominated and win local elections.

Pragmatic Conservatives
Pragmatic conservatives, on the other hand, may have no religious orientation at all. Instead, they care primarily about their own personal authority, not the authority of the church or Christ, or God. They want to be strict fathers in their own [nuclear family] domains, with authority primarily over their own lives.

Thus, a young, unmarried conservative — male or female —may want to have sex without worrying about marriage. They may need access to contraception, need advice about sexually transmitted diseases, need information about cervical cancer, and so on. If a conservative female becomes pregnant and there is no possibility or desire for marriage, abortion can be openly considered and discussed.

Trump is a pragmatic conservative, par excellence. He knows a lot of Republican voters are like him in their pragmatism. Trump likes Planned Parenthood because plenty of young, married-unmarried pragmatic conservatives want what Planned Parenthood offers — cheap and confidential access to contraception, cervical cancer prevention, and sex ed.

Similarly, young or middle-aged pragmatic conservatives want to maximize their own wealth. They don’t want to be saddled with financial burdens of caring for their parents. Social Security and Medicare relieve them of most of those responsibilities. So Trump wants to keep Social Security and Medicare.

Laissez-faire Free Marketeers
Establishment conservative policies are shaped as much or more from another direction. From the political power of those seeking maximally laissez-faire free markets, where wealthy people and corporations set market rules in their favor with minimal government regulation and enforcement.

Free Marketeers who lean towards selfishness see taxation not as investment in publicly provided resources for all citizens, but as government taking their earnings, their private property; and through government programs, giving the money to those who don’t deserve it.

This is the source of establishment Republicans’ anti-tax and 'shrink government' views. This version of conservatism is quite happy with outsourcing government to private firms. This version of conservatism is quite happy with increasing corporate profits by sending manufacturing and services abroad where labor is cheap. The consequence of well-paying jobs leaving America and wages driven down here does not concern them. Since they depend on cheap imports, they don't want high import tariffs.

Donald Trump does not make products abroad to import here and mark up at a profit. As a developer, he builds hotels, casinos, office buildings, golf courses. He may build them abroad with cheap labor but he doesn’t import them.

He recognizes most small business owners in America are more like him: dry cleaners, pizzerias, diners, plumbers, hardware stores, gardeners, contractors, car washers, and professionals like architects, lawyers, doctors, and nurses. To them high tariffs don’t look like a problem.

Many business people are pragmatic conservatives. They like government power when it works for them. Take eminent domain. Establishment Republicans see it as an abuse by government — government taking my private property.

Conservative real estate developers like Trump conveniently ignore a big paradox. The real estate development business depends on eminent domain so homes and small businesses in areas they want to develop can be flattened for the sake of new development plans. All they have to do is get local government officials to go along, with campaign contributions and the promise of an increase in local tax dollars helping to acquire eminent domain rights. Trump points to Atlantic City, where he built his casino using eminent domain to get the property.

If businesses have to pay for their employees’ health care benefits, Trump wants them to pay as little as possible, to maximize profits for businesses in general. He would therefore want health insurance and pharmaceutical companies to charge as little as possible. To increase competition, he wants insurance companies to offer plans nationally, avoiding the state-run exchanges under the Affordable Care Act. The ACA does not exist to increase business profits. It exists to maximize citizen health coverage, and help low-income people get coverage.

Trump does however want to keep the mandatory feature of ACA. Establishment conservatives hate this. They see it as government overreach, forcing people to buy a product. For Trump, however, the mandatory feature for individuals increases the insurance pool and brings down costs for businesses.

Why Trump's Lack of Policy Detail Doesn’t Matter

I recently heard a brilliant and articulate Clinton surrogate argue how Trump has presented no policy plans for increasing jobs, increasing economics growth, improving education, gaining international respect, etc. This is the basic Clinton campaign argument. Hillary has the experience, the policy know-how, she can get things done, it’s all on her website. Trump has no specific policy plans on his website [as of Nov 1, 2016 Trump's website copy amounted to only slogans and promises.]

What Hillary’s campaign says is true--and irrelevant.

Trump supporters and other radical Republican extremists could not care less, and for a good reason. Their job is to impose their view of strict father morality in all areas of life. They subconsciously see themselves in a Holy War for their values and their way of life. [To the degree conservatives and Regressives feel this way, behave this way, this is why the USA is locked in a death struggle with its shadow-self, the Islamic jihadists and Taliban. What do Islamic terrorists want? To impose their view of strict father morality in all areas of life. Islamic Regressives and USA Regressives are more similar than different--and cannot admit this.]

If Regressives have control of Congress, and the Presidency and the Supreme Court, they think they can achieve their desired cultural hegemony.

They don’t need to name policies. Republicans already have hundreds of policies ready to go. They just need to be in complete power, that's all.

How Can Democrats respond constructively and effectively?
First, don’t think of an elephant. Remember not to repeat false conservative claims and then rebut them with facts. You simply reinforce the untruths.

Instead, go positive. Give a positive truthful framing which undermines untrue claims. Use facts to support positively-framed truth. Use repetition.

Second, start with values, not policies, not facts not numbers. Say what you believe--and haven’t been saying.

For example, Nurturant Parenting is built on taking care of your self first SO THAT you can then serve others.

We frequently compress progressive values into one word: empathy. Indeed, Nurturant-Parenting-values-citizens care about other citizens. The value of empathy works through government to provide public resources for all, both businesses and individuals.

Use history. This is how America started. The public resources used by businesses were not only roads and bridges, but public education, a national bank, a patent office, courts for business cases, interstate commerce support, and of course the criminal justice system. From the beginning, the Private Sector, private lives and private enterprise, depended on Public Resources.

Over time those resources have included sewers, water and electricity, research universities and research support: computer science (via the NSF), the internet (ARPA), pharmaceuticals and modern medicine (the NIH), satellite communication (NASA and NOA), and GPS systems and cell phones (the Defense Department).

Private enterprise and private life utterly depend on public resources. Have you ever said this? Elizabeth Warren has. Almost no other public figures.

Stop defending “the government.” Talk about the public, the people, Americans, the American people, public servants, and good government. Catch them being good; praise them for it. Take back "freedom," link it to public resources which provide freedom in private enterprise and private life.

Conservatives wish to privatize all commons and all services; they wish to eliminate funding for most public resources, the "commons." The contribution of public resources to our freedoms cannot be overstated. Speak; spell this out for the uninformed, the forgetful and the brainwashed.

Include the police. Effective respectful policing is a public resource. Chief David O. Brown of the Dallas Police got it right. Training, community policing, knowing the people you protect. Don’t expect too much of the police. Citizens have a responsibility to provide funding so police don’t have to do jobs which should be done by others.

Unions need to go on the offensive. Unions are instruments of freedom — freedom from tyrannical servitude. Working people are profit creators for the employers. As such they deserve a fair share of the profits and respect and acknowledgement. Say it. Spell it out.

Can the public create jobs? Of course. Fixing infrastructure will create jobs. this provides more public resources which private lives and businesses depend on. Public resources to create more public resources. Freedom creates opportunity which creates more freedom.

Third, keep out of nasty exchanges and attacks. Keep out of shouting matches. One can speak powerfully without shouting. Obama sets the pace: Civility, values, positivity, good humor, and real empathy are powerful. Calmness and empathy in the face of fury are powerful.

Bill Clinton won because he oozed empathy, with his voice, his eye contact, and his body. It wasn’t his superb ability as a policy wonk, but the empathy he projected and inspired.

Find your value proposition

Values come first, facts and policies follow, in the service of values. Facts matter. Progressives misunderstand facts when they misconstrue facts as the underlying reason for a policy. Take poverty. The underlying rationale for policy to combat poverty is NOT there are too many poor people. Rather the underlying policy is ALWAYS a clear value proposition. In the richest country in the world, we can afford to share more of our wealth with those most in need of support. Empathy. Find your value proposition. Articulate it. Over and over.

Give up identity politics

Give up identity politics. No more women’s issues, black issues, Latino issues. Their issues are all real, and need public discussion. Yet they all fall under freedom issues, human issues. [Just talk to working people as a whole. That's how Trump won his electoral victory. Remember, Trump used John Edwards "Two Americas" to win. Bernie Sanders used the "Two Americas" to mobilize millions. Hillary used "Father knows best; I'll take care of you" and lost].

Address poor whites! Appalachian and rust belt whites deserve your attention as much as anyone else. Don’t surrender their fate to Trump, who will just increase their suffering.

Why is JFK’s, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” immortal? Because it points to the values of empathy, devotion, love, pride in our country, free choice--and--taking on responsibility beyond our own self--the maturing-up we all must do sooner or later.

Be prepared. To stand up calmly and effectively to Regressives you can--and you have to--learn how to use rhetorical akido. These metaphors and linguistic tactics are the rhetorical Progressive martial arts.

1) Lakoff's original piece goes on for another 2,600 words. I didn't feel his tertiary ideas were useful for an accessible summary of his main ideas. His auxiliary ideas can be read here

2) Lakoff's divide between Strict Father and Nurturant Parenting is echoed in the difference between Old and New Testament in the Bible and pro-slavery~anti-slavery forces 1850-1860 in the USA. Michael Hayes at began the most current discussion of Old Testament vs. New Testament as an archetypal-mythological contrast.

How unnecessary bias and predjudice against pretense blocks holistic practitioners

Holistic practitioners, especially the women, have a bias, a prejudice against "pretense."

Debbie Bermont in San Diego, who wrote one of the first books on holistic marketing, was the first I know to say something like, building a successful business involves building another outer layer of yourself so the world can see you and engage with you. She likened this literally to building another layer of your aura solely for worldly consumption.

Last week we found a positive metaphor for this, building your own 'department store display window.'

However the holistic folks are against all falseness and all pretense of any kind.

When we lived in caves as yogis or in the nunnery, we vowed to give up all worldly pretenses and false fronts.

Since the 1950s and Catcher in the Rye, the holistic people have been against "phoniness."

Since the Summer of Love (1969) the Hippies have been for Oneness and wholeness.

These are part of the mythology (identifications) of holistic-New Age folks.

They are unconsciously against Debbie's method and want no additional layers of pretense believing this interferes with and covers up their heart.

What they misunderstand is our physical body is a pretense. Our imagination is a pretense. Our emotions are a pretense. Our mind is a pretense.

In Creation soul is always using pretense and learning how to use it to our advantage instead of our disadvantage. Only in Soul and Above can we be free of all pretenses PACME.

Building a business is building a pretense AND it is one which works for you if you work it.

Okay to share this.

Mitochondria Healing Journal

This journal began a few years ago exploring topics around Mark Starr's and Jerry Tennant's topic Hypothyroidism Type 2, the Epidemic

Cell replication is sex for cells

Cell replication is probably best understood by humans as healthy sex (orgasm) between men and women. Cell replication is as close as cells get to higher realms beyond the physical.

Let's apply this to mitochondria. They make cellular energy. Making energy (ethericity?) may be the prime time mitochondria are close to higher realms and Angelic activity.

Let's look at the Golgi bodies. They make some or all of the Glycosaminoglycans (GAGS) including Chondroitin sulfate, the most prevalent GAG, principle ingredient of Rerum. Making Chondroitin sulfate is probably the most pleasurable thing Golgi Bodies do.

The above suggests a pattern. In Conscious Self language, the most pleasureful thing to do at the cellular and intra-cellular level is to "follow your instructions" and make the product you are supposed to make, whether this is new cells or intra-cellular products for cell use and export.

In this each cell, each intra-cellular organelle, has its own intelligence (the old word was programming). Its intelligence is very good at making at least one product. Doing so for the cell or the mitochondria, etc, is "nectar of the gods" for them.

Back to mitochondria. This gives us some sense of what mitochondria like and prefer to do, make cellular energy (probably ethericity of a low frequency just a bit higher in frequency than physical cells themselves. Probably not as high as astral frequency but towards this).

Using oxygen is top priority

The body's use of O2 is THE most basic issue, at the top of all these priorities:

- Air-for the oxygen

- food

- exercise

- touch and affection

Breaking out of our limited view of oxygen use

In human culture now, we live in a mental box about our 02 use. We think only in primitive binary terms of, "I can breathe," or "I can't breathe."

O2 is so significant, our immune system/etheric body probably has multiple sensory pathways to perceive its activity. We're simply not attending to these, not educated to the additional sensory apparatus we have to perceive shades of gray in our 02 use.

Q: Can't we simply muscle test our current 02 use against our optimal 02 use?

A: Yes we can. I've explored this and find it interesting. I also think there is more.

Q: Why would we need more than muscle testing?

A: Because measuring our current 02 use against our optimal 02 use can only be done with numbers. Numbers are an abstraction.

Q: What is more real than numbers?

A: At this time, the feeling level of our 02 use is likely to be our most-open sensory pathway. In NLP this is the kinesthetic sensory pathway. In Holistic Brain Balance, building on Steiner, we talk about the seven kinesthetic senses "feeling" in all concrete senses of the word. Full discussion in the two booklets on the senses.

Q: What emotions are my mitochondria feeling?

A: Yes, this is the obvious and relevant question.

Are your mitochondria depressed?

If you have studied depression from almost any angle, it's clear depressed persons do not breathe as fully as chronically happy people. Depressed people slow down their air intake; therefore, their 02 intake.

Habit Body theory tells us every frequency in our psyche is intelligent; therefore, every intelligence in our body can learn. How do we learn? Mostly by forming habits (Richard Bandler).

When we conjure with "depression" as a "habit" in your "unconscious," keys to work with depression as a pattern begin appearing.

A way forward here is to ask yourself, "Have I ever been depressed?" If you have, have you considered how time you spent depressed, acted as "programming" to your Habit Body, specifically to your breathing and mitochondria?

What programming does experiencing "depression" send to our breathing and mitochondria?

Clearly "being depressed" sends them the message to "slow down and do less."

How many times do you think you have been depressed in the past year? Past ten years? How about this lifetime?

Counting how many times you felt depressed this lifetime adds up to a number, even if you are estimating.

Now consider how many prior existences you have had on Earth and perhaps on other planets. Do you think you could have been depressed in one or more of those lifetimes? If depression is a recurring choice (experience) for you this lifetime, is it possible you could have been depressed many times in prior lives?

I'm thinking persons for whom depression is a recurring habit pattern in this lifetime, "rehearsed" and "practiced" their depression in prior embodiments, maybe for a long time.

Where do you think unresolved memories of depression, from earlier times are stored? In our unconscious, specifically in unconscious frequencies of our Habit Body.

Guess what else lives, moves and has its being, in the unconscious frequencies of our Habit Body? Our mitochondria.

The above suggests how "depression" could easily be viewed as a habit, an unwanted habit in our Habit Body.

Q: How can I check if my mitochondria feel depressed?

A: I only see two ways to perceive this. One is thru some form of self-testing, such as Arm-length Testing. The other is go to someone who can test you or who is clairvoyant and can see this directly.

Q: Can I use meridian tapping to move this?

A: Probably. When you run out of meridian-tapping-strategies, try muscle testing.

Perceiving depressed breathing in our rib cage

The best text for this is the classic, The Body Reveals; What Your Body Says About You (1984) by Ron Kurtz and Hector Prestera. It's available for one cent plus shipping online.

The short version of this book applied to our topic goes something like this. If your chest and rib cage is contracted-narrow, this suggests you may have brought unresolved unconscious habits of depression, from earlier times, into this present life. Why? A narrow chest suggests, in infancy, your basic self did not feel safe to breathe fully nor feel fully. Our simple-minded word for this is "depression."

Be careful not to go overboard here. An over-expanded chest and rib-cage is probably just as dysfunctional as an under-developed chest and rib cage. Wilhelm Reich was the first to uncover the connection between over-expanded chest and rib cage and narcissistic-neurotic tendencies. This is in his still very readable book, Character Analysis (1948).

DANGERS of increasing your 02 usage

Significant dangers exist in healing your 02 usage and mitochondria, some of the same dangers as taking dried pig thyroid supplements.

The main danger is as soon as your cells receive more 02, they begin detoxing.

You can prove this to your self by lying down and hyper-ventilating for ten minutes. When you feel tingly, this is your cells detoxing.

Q: Yes, that's Rebirthing and related methods. Why did these fade away?

A: They were not interested in, nor following, adequate and sufficient safety measures. This is discussed directly below.

The more unwanted debris and toxins your cells wish to unload, the SLOWER you want to detox.

Our cells live, move and have their being in our unconscious frequencies. These frequencies are intelligent. They are simply so far away from and foreign-seeming to where we spend most of our time, in Conscious Waking Self, we know little about them; unless and until, life impels us to learn about them.

What we forget is our cells carry not only unresolved physical toxins and heavy metals but unwanted habits imaginally, emotional, mentally and mythological. These will also begin to release as you raise your 02 usage.
