Absolutely Outstanding!!! I had the Lamb Chop. Maybe the best lamb I've ever had. Tender and cooked perfectly rare (if a good vet can't bring it back it's been over cooked)! One of my companions had the Wagyu Skirt Steak. She prefers her steaks medium well and our waiter suggested this cut as being one that fits that preparation. He nailed it! It was exceptionally flavorful and almost literally melted in your mouth. The sides and desserts were also outstanding. Impeccable service (thank you Josh). The evening's manager (Luke) took a personal interest in making sure every table and every guest a great experience. My new favorite steak house in San Diego! Read some of the negative reviews here .... too funny!! Especially the Vegetarian who gave it 1 star because ... wait for it ... there was meat in almost all the preparations! HELLOOO! It is a STEAK House AND BUtCHER shop!. Also got a kick out of the person who complained that the capriccio was sliced very thinly ... It is carpaccio ... it's supposed to be paper thin! I'm only putting this here because I couldn't write replies to the actual reviews. Basically, if you don't eat meat, don't understand haute cuisine or don't get that this is a very high end restaurant, you might not like it and probably should stick to Outback or Trilogy in La Jolla (for you veggies out there and you non veggies too ... really it is great!). IF you do like meat and don't mind paying for the highest quality presented by a superb staff, Cowboy Star is a MUST visit!

Have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The service, food, and drinks are exceptional. My favorites are the steak tartar and steak frites and any of the cocktails you cannot go wrong with. The wine selection is very good as well and they have a lot of local beers on tap too. Love sitting at the bar and conversing with the bartenders. A hidden gem in San Diego!

I have worked in the hospitality industry for 10 years running up the ranks from server up to sommelier, my restaurant was a 4 star establishment. My Wife and I chose this place last minute in order to take advantage of our babysitter being available....the decor and ambience is ok considering they have no valet and ( in our case and mostly during normal dinner hours you're forced to park across the street in a grocery store parking lot and pay the trusty bill slot post on the south end of it. My Wife ordered the NY strip med-well....I on the other hand ordered the dry-aged boneless Ribeye all came out at the proper temperature that we requested but I was the one that ended up with FOOD POISONING!....I have never had any episodes of this until I decided to go to this my line of work, this is unacceptable at any level, let alone when you price your menu as such!/....Proceed with caution with this place. Especially their dry aged steaks!!

The service was excellent, the food great. It was a bit noisy and we were seated about 45 mins. late, but they gave us complimentary champagne and were really nice. I would go there again for dinner.

Our server was Joshua. From the start I knew by his pleasant demeanor that we would have better than just "good" service. He took the time to explain everything in great detail and seemed very eager to go above and beyond. Making sure our dining experience was exceptional. He always checked in with us at the select perfect moments (not while we were stuffing our faces). Before our food was served, he asked me (without me ever mentioning anything) if I'm vegetarian (which I am) based on the things I had orders. Just to ensure everything came out to my liking. We received complementary desserts and had good conversation with one of the chef's and other staff members. All were very friendly and so kind. After dinner, we walked half way down the street when Joshua came running up to us with my credit card in hand. I had forgotten it and he was kind enough to chase us down. Litterally. The food was superb and the staff, even better. Great job!

This is by far the best restaurant in town. I visited a friend in San Diego and he took me here. I'm very picky when it comes to fine dining restaurants and this place definitely went right to the top of my list. Next time I'm in town this will be the first restaurant I'll be going to. On another note I forgot my phone there and they didn't open back up till after my flight left the next day to go back home. They were quick to mail it right back to me in Milwaukee. I got it today. Thanks guys.

Such a great indie steakhouse. BISON BISON BISON. If you like steak, you have to try their BISON. It is super good. Ive been here many times. BISON and the duck, which are delicious. Now, Im not a huge fan of going to food specific places (steakhouses, seafood houses, etc) and eating something else, but in this instance, Cowboy Star does very well. People that I have been with have also had non steak items and been very impressed. The drink menu is very well done as well. Lots of pretty creative mixed drinks on the menu and decent wine options. Location is very convenient with parking on the street, across the street. And the service is absolutely incredible...and right on point. I would recommend anyone to go here for a great dining experience.
