First snowboarding session of the season for me.  The previous season, a bunch of people in the office purchased night passes to Camp Fortune for this season in advance. I headed out tonight, and ran into two coworkers who were there for a ski lesson. Being that it had been 263 days since I'd last been snowboarding, I was pretty rusty at it... but I got better as the night went on.  This was also the first night that I was trying out my new Burton Photon Boa boots, and my new GoPro Hero4 Silver (mounted to the attachment point built into my helmet).

I walked down to Sparks St., passing by Parliament, to see the New Year's Eve festivities and fireworks there. It was good, but I think it was better in previous years when the music and people would keep going until the late hours of the AM, instead of pretty much ending at 00h15 on January 1st. The funnest part of seeing the fireworks here is watching them hit the buildings.

After I got off the plane from Coolangatta, my transit pass was still valid all around Sydney, so I took the train in to the city, then the streetcar to Chinatown and Darling Harbour (where my hotel was). After checking in to the hotel and dropping my stuff off (and then delivering something from Ashok to his sister-in-law), I headed out through Chinatown and walked to the Apple Store. There,  I met up with my cousin Amy for dinner that night. Kevin also drove into the city to hang around for a bit after dinner. I don't have video of the rest of that stuff, but I did post pictures up on Facebook as I took them.

After having dinner at IKEA, we went back into the store to look at some stuff. I hadn't noticed this "exploding" pendant lamp before; it's new for the IKEA PS 2014 collection.

This is part of a longer video. I decided to revisit the Fuddle Duddle Haut run (the more difficult, upper part of Fuddle Duddle), which is full of moguls from beginning to end. It was quite challenging, but I did get footage of another snowboarder falling in front of me, and of the first call I received using the new Bluetooth headset I installed in my helmet.

After having another fresh-caught crab for breakfast (I think Conrad even came around to help eat it), Uncle Henry and Auntie Coral took me to Charis to view the daily feeding of the pelicans. Uncle Henry took his turn (amongst a crowd of mostly Chinese tourists) doing a feeding. Then we had lunch there, as they will cook any seafood you buy on the premises. The picture I mentioned getting in the video (if you understand Cantonese, you can hear Auntie Coral's concern over this) was posted last year... I think I might have posted it to Facebook on the spot.

Very crowded day/evening at Edelweiss. I'll probably put up a longer video about this, or something. Just wanted to upload this short clip of some unexpected airtime that +Andrew Brown encountered (twice) on one of the runs.

Lots of things have changed in Southport since I grew up in the region! We visited Auntie Fiona's place in Southport (and her brother's apartment on a different floor). From the balcony, I happened to record part of a test run on the new G:link (Gold Coast Light Rail) line as the train passed through Southport. Auntie Fiona gave me a brief tour of the residential/shopping/office complex... everything's there so it's so convenient! And, the light rail runs right by it. LOL, I was so engrossed in the recording the view out the balcony that I only understood the conversation behind me when I reviewed the video 8 months afterwards.

NSFV! (Not Safe For Vegans) The crab traps off the dock in the canal behind the house produced crabs two days while I was there (and the third day, someone from out of town gifted some live crabs of a different breed, but also quite large), so we had fresh crab for breakfast three days in a row! Uncle Henry told me that Uncle Jose was out the back checking the traps every morning when he and Auntie Lily stayed there a few weeks earlier, but didn't find any on that trip. If you watch to the end of the clip, you'll see a view of the canal from the dock; my family lived on the 2nd floor at this address in the very early '80s (at the time the house was divided into an upper apartment built on top of a formerly one story bungalow).

After picking up Marie-Claire and Tarquin at school, Debby took me on a short drive from Southport through Surfers Paradise to Broadbeach. Later that evening, we all attended a concert at Marie-Claire's school (not shown... I didn't record it). Sorry about the atrocious audio quality! I had covered the microphone, and manipulating the audio to make it more-or-less intelligible also introduced a lot of artifacts.
