+Eulalio Tovar Cardona is heading a social media campaign for NiantiClaus again this year. This is a fun way to share what you'd like to wish for in Ingress. Details are listed in the shared post, which includes a template. When you post on social media, please be sure to use the #NiantiClaus2018 hashtag.

Very cool op!!
SitRep for op Marshmallow Man : field art with crossed links

Believe it or not, crossed links are actually possible in Ingress! Starting October, agents @bluesfemme, @octarine and @57Cell conducted a series of experiments with crossed links, with two goals:

* To do a cross-faction, cross-links field art operation
* To teach everyone else how to do cross-links, and see what amazing pieces of art the community can come up with!

These experiments culminated in operation Marshmallow Man, involving 12 agents, and 11 pairs of crossed links

Congratulations agents @57Cell(R) @bluesfemme(E), @BobKeever(E), @Grubatron(R), @infinitebacon(E), @LittleKehua(R), @MrsSputnik(R), @Nevinator(E), @nzcoops(R), @octarine(R), @rea(R), @SSSputnik(R) and @thestarfigment(E)!

The full situation report, including links to more photos from the experiments, can be found at http://sitreps.teasearch.com/2018/11/25/op-marshmallow-man/

A video on how to make crossed links will launch on the 8th of December, at 3pm GMT: https://youtu.be/Ch7OUYYsjL8

Resistance, you make me proud! Congratulations to all the agents that put in the effort for this win.
Agents,
After vigorous undertakings from both Factions, #RecursionPrime has come to an end with the Resistance claiming 13 Recursion Artifacts to the Enlightened's 8. Their efforts are rewarded by Hank Johnson aligning to their Faction!

Well written. 💙

Yesterday was a rough day, with unexpected change coming on multiple levels. While there are some things to be excited about (Recursion!) there are a lot of agents feeling deeply unhappy with where we are now. I've been reading chats, talking to people, and thinking a lot of about what has happened and here's what I see.

* Concern over the state of Prime: Almost doesn't need to be expanded on. There are serious problems.

* Concern over the selling of hackable gear in the store: To my mind, the bigger issue at present. A few of the reasons that this is a big issue and deal breaker for many agents follow.
-- A breach of trust: We were assured this would never happen, period.
-- A change in the game culture: Buying gear has been a phenomenon for a long time, and has been a persistent issue in many communities. Niantic offering gear for sale in the store legitimizes the idea that this is acceptable, but offers it at prices that are higher than the black market sellers. I can't see how this is going to lead to anything but increased utilization of illicit gear sellers and an increase in bought gear, which will unfairly shift the balance in the game in many locations and will inevitably increase stress on communities trying to play fairly.
-- Loss of some of what makes +Ingress unique: Many players of this game have stayed around because Ingress is different. It relies on skill and cooperation to do big things, in real time and in real life. Making it just another microtransaction game erodes at least some of what makes this game distinct and special.

So what do we do? I think many of us understand the desire of +Niantic to monetize Ingress, that's the nature of business. I also think many of us have a lot of ideas about ways to create revenue streams from this game that don't directly affect game play. But before we rush to squeeze cash from the player base, I would ask Niantic and +John Hanke to consider that this game has been built not only by smart engineers and designers, but also on the backs of uncountable volunteer hours from your agents. Those huge anomaly events that provide such good PR? Organized by volunteers with zero help from Niantic, volunteers who dedicate literally hundreds of hours of their lives to making a successful event. Those big field ops that provide beautiful pictures of curvy triangles to publish? Created by people who, again, spend literally hundreds of hours patiently drawing and redrawing lines, recruiting for clearing, and agonizing over blockers AND by agents willing to drive, wait patiently, clear their target and then wait some more to see if it all paid off. The Ingress communities that keep agents engaged, facilitate mission creation, plan and execute events like Mission Day and Ingress First Saturday? Moderated by volunteers and powered by enthusiastic and knowledgeable agents who do the work because they care about their community and the game.

And finally, all those Pokegyms and Pokestops that have allowed you to make such a big name for yourself, and which facilitated the development of a game that by all accounts is raking in money hand over fist? Most of those came from Ingress agents who went out and submitted portals, some in their neighborhoods and some through extraordinary effort. And now, those new portals go live through the continued efforts of agents who review submissions through OPR (some in astounding volumes). Yes, more portals benefit Ingress agents, but they undeniably benefit your big money maker too.

So while monetization feels inevitable, it also feels like a bit of a slap in the face to those of us who have put literal blood, sweat, and tears into making your game the success that it is. If you continue on this path, I think it's fair to say that we want not only competency (no more typos, no more errors on the websites and A GAME THAT WORKS) and transparency (no more surprise updates, no more days of silence in the face of profound upheaval), but also respect for the love that we have for the game, and for the communities that we have built. Please please please listen to your players and do the right thing here.
