manuel caballero jimenez: Ahora está el mercado un poco entorpecido por los diferentes puntos de venta,Tesla debería empezar a trabajar en un coche eficiente,económico,sostenible, los modelos actuales son increíbles,pero realmente buscamos exclusividad o funcionalidad,puesto a pedir las dos maneras son propias de cada profesión o persona individual y por su puesto mirando cada detalle,es una pena que aquí en España no tengamos ni posibilidad de innovación tecnológica,ya que el mercado está regulado por intereses europeos,no interesa construcción del coche del futuro pues mirando hacia mas lejos tendrían que hacer acuerdos comerciales y Europa lleva mucho tiempo perdiendo el tiempo en BMW, Mercedes, Audi, a alguien se le ocurrió hace años que 300cv para ir al trabajo era un sueño,ni mucho menos si el director no daban ejemplo con uno con más caballos,así fue durante esta última década que nadie pensó que los coches en sus gran mayoría son herramientas de trabajo de uso cotidiano y sin embargo en algunos países se cataloga como lujo,cual tenemos que diferencias de uno a otro,la fina frontera sobre los impuestos,los intereses mundiales que hacen los propios países

Grant Lanning: When are we gonna see a solar roof on the Tesla's. Since most vehicles sit for long durations during the day in parking lots, could a slow recharge over that time period be useful?

Grant Lanning: +Joshua Houston thanks for posting that link! Interesting article, not sure how the solar panel roof would work for defrosting windows and clearing the snow off vehicles. I would think on days with snow, it would be to cloudy to generate any electricity and then add snow on top of the panels....Idk, maybe?

Patti Lacey: +Sherriff-Goslin Co Grand Rapids As long as any company's product stands with a lifetime guarantee (which is 7 years in our state). Every state has a different guarantee for lifetime warranty. (Act of God from insurance company policies do not cover replacement case by case basis.)

Our state in the past has not been a solar-friendly state because of Utility Commission. Yet, as a society, we have yet to prove we can exist without oil. Hopefully, we can legislate for solar since we are viable for the energy.

Kiki Jewell: +F Munoz well, you need to think farther than your own life. :) Petroleum is not renewable and will run out one day -- shouldn't we save that energy for the far future?

There are so many reasons electricity is the better choice, esp when it comes from the sun.

Kiki Jewell: +Gary Beltrami the Model S is a land yacht. It's a very large car, and if we were to buy one, it would extend 3' longer than our Leaf, and block the sidewalk. Also hard to park, and a heck of a lot of car to haul around everywhere.

So sour grapes to that. :)

I doubt the 3 will be a dog. I'm sure it will be a fantastic car too!

Currently, I'm in Salt Lake City, UT and I want to be a volunteer, who will drive Tesla around the world.

SLC,UT - New York port - Portugal Port - through Europe and Russia to Alaska - the through Canada back to Salt Lake City,UT

It's no necessarily need to be this travel order - I just want to be the FIRST MAN ON EARTH WHO WILL DRIVE TESLA AROUND THE WORLD.

Sceptics will refuse taking this idea, but I believe, I know, I'm sure that IT IS POSSIBLE. How Elon Musk said 'You will be able to drive this car everywhere, where you can find electricity' - electricity is everywhere. Even if not - Tesla also has SunBatteries: Sun is everywhere.

Besides being a dreamer, I'm videographer, so be sure that daily video-reports for the audience will have place.

I find it hard to believe I'd visit a supercharger often enough to use that much. But then, I like in the UK. It's not a massive island, this.

Matt Thompson: Considering the low cost of charging at home, I imagine this won't hurt anything. If it keeps economic growth alive (and superchargers maintained) then I'm all for it.

Nate Woodward: +Sheldon H Henderson it was never free. It was built into the price of the car. In fact, for a while, you had to pay $1,000 to enable "free" supercharging on the bottom trim level. This is still a needed shift going forward, as more and more Teslas are on the road.

Autopilot Full Self-Driving Hardware (Neighborhood Long)

Colin Fox: +Elisaul Medina it's pre-alpha software. As a software guy myself, I can tell you that what they have right now is amazing. By the time they release it, it will be well polished.

Colin Fox: +Marc MERLIN actually they are. Google has been doing it longer, that's true. But Tesla has an order of magnitude more autopilot miles driven, and soon will release level 5 autonomous driving.

Btw, where can you buy a Google self driving car? Oh, that's right, you can't. You can buy a Tesla though. I'd say that puts them ahead.

Marc MERLIN: +Colin Fox just to be clear, I have a model S, and I want APv2 to be out and working, but you are getting some things mixed up:
1) Tesla does not have more AP miles driven than Google. Their miles are AP assisted, not AP driven. The AP is an aid and not able to properly see things from the sides (car merging into your lane, cones closing off the road, and more than once I've had my car plow at 50mph+ into a stopped car, yes, really. It was not going to stop before hitting, I waited until the last seconds before stopping myself).
They could have a billion miles driven with AP1, those miles are not very useful due to how poor an inadequate the sensors are for full autonomy.
2) APv2 is better, but I'm not sure if it's sufficient, we'll see. I hope it's sufficient, but it's still inferior to what google self driving cars, have (the google cars are way too expensive though)
3) you can't buy a google car, for a variety of reasons. You can go read up on what Google has said publicly.
4) Tesla has a high threshold for risk, giving people an AP that really isn't an AP and can kill them if they are not paying attention. With APv2, it's going to be even hard to get people to pay attention of the road the more the car drives itself. When things go wrong, the driver not paying attention at all, will not be ready to take over until multiple seconds have elapsed, making a very risk situation unless APv2 is near perfect and does not.
You can guess that on the flipside Google prefers to take the safer road, and only release a product they feel is as safe as possible.
From my experience with APv1, that's not that Tesla did, but they did a reasonable job repeating that you were responsible for what the car was doing when AP is on. With APv2 though that will not be possible.
5) The APv2 demo is exciting, but you totally underestimate how much work is left for Tesla to do before they have full autonomy, assuming the v2 hardware makes it possible as is.

And again, I want tesla to succeed. Unless Google is going to sell me and you a self driving car anytime soon, I'd want to buy another one from Tesla as soon as possible :)
(I just very much doubt Tesla will provide one that matches what the google ones can do before Google, but I think that they can provide one that does less than Google before google releases its)

Tesla takes us off-grid - Power(wall) to the people!

Tom Hume: +Brian Stringfellow 1. Electricity bills in Australia are among the highest in the world with no sign of going down 2. Australia's grid is highly dependent on fossil fuels and our emissions have gone UP for the past 3 years 3. This family now get to produce their own clean energy and use it. By buying less from the grid, making the grid more resilient, taking power away from the oligopolistic grasp of the utilities, and pay less in power bills at the same time. It's a no brainer if you can afford the initial capital outlay.

Stuart Lamble: +Brian Stringfellow, generally speaking, the feed-in tariffs for putting energy back into the grid will be significantly less than the price you pay to pull energy out of the grid. If you have solar panels on the roof, you're getting a benefit - but you get more of a financial benefit if you use that energy, rather than feeding it into the grid.

One of the reasons I haven't yet installed solar panels is because most of my energy usage is during the evening and at night - exactly those times when solar panels produce little or no energy. It isn't worth it to me to produce power, get paid 8 cents per kWh to feed it into the grid, and then have to pay 20 or so cents per kWh to pull it back out of the grid. Battery storage changes that equation. Not by enough, in my case - I don't use enough energy that the financial savings from batteries would make them worthwhile, which means that solar panels for me are not worthwhile - but for others, it might be the difference between financial viability of the option and being better off spending the funds elsewhere.

Over time, I expect to see the capital cost of home electricity storage options coming down, and that's when things like this will become more common. Not necessarily the Powerwall - I think lithium-based chemistry is a poor choice of technology for home energy storage - but certainly in general.

Wolfgang Rupprecht: +Gary Virta I never understood the name Power*WALL*. Now I do. I'd pictured it not much larger than a medicine cabinet mirror.

+Brian Stringfellow It all depends on if net metering is in effect or not. If one has to sell the power to the electric company for cents on the dollar if might be a better deal to buy the expensive batteries and use the power yourself. Note, one of these powerwalls is much too small to run a house. They can only put out a few kilowatts. When running off batteries you have to make sure nobody turns on the electric range, oven or dryer.
