Introduction

St. Joseph’s College has been dedicated to providing a diverse population of students in the New York metropolitan area with an affordable education rooted in the liberal arts tradition since 1916. Independent and coeducational, the College provides a strong academic and value-oriented education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, aiming to prepare each student for a life characterized by integrity, intellectual and spiritual values, social responsibility, and service. With campuses located in the Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn and in Patchogue, Long Island, the College offers more than 45 undergraduate majors, pre-professional and certificate programs, with graduate degrees in management, business, health care management, human services, nursing, accounting and education.

SJC Long Island’s 2016 was historic in more ways than one. Celebrating its 100th year, the College underwent significant improvements to its campus, including beautification upgrades to its grounds, a renovated student lounge and a new coffee shop. The College also enjoyed visits from honored guests and lecturers and hosted Phillip Phillips at our Centennial Celebration concert. Every year, Saint Joseph, the patron saint of workers and the protector of families, is honored on March 19. Legend has it that a famine in Sicily was resolved when villagers prayed to Saint Joseph, and as a result, he has been honored with ample feasts of pasta, soups, bread and pastries ever since.

2016 was a banner year for SJC Brooklyn. A centennial celebration carried us through the seasons, as we held a special series of lectures, hosted honored guests and saw a dramatic boost in enrollment. What does 2017 hold? We can only hope for as much excitement as 2016. Here now, is our SJC Brooklyn year in review.

On May 21, 2016 we celebrated the undergraduate Class of 2016 by conferring 776 degrees at the institution's commencement ceremony at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury.
